    Pffh, Fisher Price cans!

I'd like to see him try it with pints.

Won't be ratified - didn't tip the first can over his head.
Impressive run though, he should be able to repeat it properly easily enough.

Soulless without the shouts from the buddies and a bit of competition. The missus recording it, in this day of editing programmes and what not, i dunno, I wasn't 100% convinced.

Do tracks look monstrously big from ground level or what?

You are telling me that he drank 4 cans that when he poured them over his head there was not a drop of beer that came out. Not a single sud. If you look at the official video then you will see when you drink that fast there is always suds. I do suspect that the cans were already opened also. Nice 5min mile with 10 secs recovery between laps. Calling this one BS.

Rewatched the video. I don't know about you but my adams apple moves when I drink.

He's not some anonymous Youtube poster. He's a runner who has posted some serious times (3:51 for 1500m). Can't see why he'd damage whatever reputation he has, by trying to fake a result for a competition that carries little more than novelty value.

I have a feeling there was nought in the cans. Well spotted Rom!

4.3 here 5 in the US

tbh I would say bud is the best water to drink.

Love the way his wife was like I didn't think you would do it !!!

Who is minding the kids. Getting a baby sitter cause I have to break the beer mile.

He needs a independent observer from Stokes, Kennedy, Crowley :)

Flotrack interview's current official WR holder Josh Harris ahead of the Autumn Classic Beer Mile in Melbourne this Saturday.

    As predicted not ratified

    Here is the official list

He is the record holder though, ask the man who was the record holder who he thinks ran the quickest time and he will say that dude who got his wife to video him there last week.

Ratification................for a beer mile.........sweet suffering over thinking of a fun concept....

from that flotrack - Harris: It was remarkable how fast he drinks the second beer. That has to be less than 4 seconds! It would be nice if he tipped the first beer over his head, but I understand that he may have forgot in the moment. From my experience people are quick to criticize any faults in a beer mile video, so it would be nice for his sake if he’d done that.

Usually takes a couple of months to get ratified, so it not being on the list at the moment doesn't mean it won't be eventually.

Don't shoot the messenger. I am not judging the over the head tip and the various conspiracy theories around it :D

The irony is if you look to the comments on the official list you will see that I don't think even being the official list it is still a bit of fun

"2 seconds off his Manitoba record. Helped shovel the track the night before and got way past loaded."

"Im going to need a bigger boat."

Added to the unofficial one already though which would indicate it has been reviewed (especially given the publicity around it)

Pretty well known enough runner on the North American scene. NCAA Div 2 5,000m champ a couple of times, a 2:21 marathoner and a national class Canadian @ 5 and 10.

Overall probably a better standard runner than Josh Harris.

Sub 5 mins after 4 beers and 4 stoppages is very fast. As mentioned, he is a sub 4 min 1500 metre runner. He doesn't look like a miler. Big dude!

Am I correct in thinking that boards members got him to record a video for the inaugural irish beer mile championship.

Very jealous to be missing it. I was competing in the same race when Harris set the WR last year and it was a memorable moment to be a part of. Enjoy the festivities. The 2 beer miles the Melbourne Uni guys put on each year are among the most enjoyable days on the Victorian athletics calendar!

Harris is no slouch himself, and closed in a 58 at last year's Autumn Classic:

    800m 1:54.82 Launceston (AUS) 23.01.2010
    1500m 3:51.22 Launceston (AUS) 02.03.2013
    3000m 8:20.70 Penguin (AUS) 10.02.2013
    5000m 14:28.21 Hobart (AUS) 04.02.2012
    10,000m 30:57.42 Melbourne (AUS) 10.12.2011
    2000mSC 5:59.05 Sydney (AUS) 08.12.2007
    3000mSC 9:04.69 Melbourne (AUS) 06.04.2014
    10 km Road 30:23 Burnie (AUS) 21.10.2012
Half Marathon 1:07:11 Brisbane (AUS) 01.07.2012
    Marathon 2:31:09 Sydney (AUS) 22.09.2013

The marathon is slower than it should be. By all accounts Sydney last year was a stinking hot day which impacted everybody's times. I think he was gunning for about 2:22ish.

what's the craic with the event? Can I just show up at the track to have a look? Any chance of having a go at it?

Anyone can run in it. You don't need to be part of a club. Just have to bring your own beer and sign up before the race. It's free. Anybody can spectate also. Festivities continue long after so bring some cool down beers.

Parkville Beer Milers Club on Facebook for more info.

Nice one. I will write up a race report if I make it. Its only 4 laps so don't expect a Tom Clancy one like Krusty or a War and Piece one like Claralara.

Sadly no record for Harris on this occasion. Unfavourable conditions and being a bit off the pace meant he eased back to ensure the victory and not risk the penalty lap. He took the event out in 5:28 to secure his third Autumn Classic on the bounce. Hopefully he'll set the record at the Parkville Beer Mile in September, an event he has yet to win.
