Unique to Ireland because we like to complain at every opportunity.

Try the Misc on BB.com or 4chan............

What has been seen cannot be unseen. Tbf boards is very tame compared to most and a bit too policed!

There are lots of various forum sites but more often for a football club, a hobby or for a city. Ireland compared to the countries you've listed is tiny so everyone has a fair idea about the different places other posters are from, their culture, tv etc. Then theres redit

Two plus two while predominantly a poker forum also has some great political threads and general chat threads like boards.

Yeah except for NVG and BBV.

the layout makes it possibly the most user unfriendly site on the interwebs though.

Politics.ie has plenty of current affairs and economic threads, so it's rather like AH in that regard. And it's filled with posters who love to complain and generally don't have a clue what they are talking about. It allows a rather more robust level of debate though. So you can accuse someone of being a 'deluded socialist oddball' or a 'child murdering apologist'.

The closest non-Irish equivalent I can think of is the "City Data forum" which uses the same software as boards.ie

I was invited to post there by a user of boards.ie some time ago to share some of the experiences I have shared on this forum.

Another factor is that if you want to read actual discussion on Reddit, you've to trawl through an infinite number of tacky puns and family guy references.

politics.ie is a lot more free then this site , they dont ban people for tiny infringements

its also a much more friendly place for people with conservative politics

however , its a politics forum at the end of the day , if you want a site which caters beyond this , id recomend city data , its american but has a designated european and uk sections , not to mention sport and other cultural passtimes

I think I'm going to like that place...first thread is entitled Mom Beats Daughter For Posting Semi-Unclad Pictures On Facebook

    First response...
Great. If she doesn't discipline her daughter, who will?

I'm going to investigate this place further. See ye in a month.

There used to be boards equivalents for those regions, I believe. I think the reason boards works for Ireland is because we're just the right size to have a nationwide discussion board; big enough but not too big.

Despite people's aversion to reddit's layout, places like r/australia etc. or more regional than that again probably fit the bill.

The Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) makes things a lot better – http://redditenhancementsuite.com/

Or there's RedditJS.com which is like RES-lite but doesn't need a browser plugin.

Boards.ie is sui generis and that is how it should remain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭orangesoda

digital spy maybe, people are very uptight on it, not up for the banter at all (the mods here are a bit like that)

p.s. Politics.ie is full of tossers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,183 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

/Reading on here and I must agree with that Ireland seems to be the right size for a nationwide forum where all can be discussed from the threads in AH to the sports forums, religion forums, CT forum etc. A general forum

I agree about City Data. That's about the closest thing to an American version of Boards.

Hi could you do me a favour and find a more stupidly obtuse way of saying whatever it is you're trying to say? Thanks :)

You didn't get that? I thought the use of the word useless at the start of the sentence made it quite clear what I was saying.

I mean it didn't even have any big words but I'll simplify it for you.

I think reddits layout is crap. I made a (poor?) play on your use of the word king to convey this fact.

And just to preempt the question the idea behind it is that kings weren't that useful so calling reddits layout king was not a compliment.

    Or in other words:

LOL kings is crap, yous say reddit gud r thickos ROFLYSST

There used to be boards.co.uk. If you visit the URL now though it's some kind of windsurfing website.
