    Hello people!

I have had Alopecia Areata since the end of October last year. I'm trying to keep happy and upbeat because I hide it well enough but I need help....its getting worse. Went to the doc, he said ride it out....so confused

I don't know if there's any treatment for this, but I assume not?

To manage any kind of critical situation, I always ask myself what the worst case scenario is, and how I'd manage that. Half the battle of coping with anything, I find, is having a plan.

If I were in your situation I'd be most afraid of a permanent loss of all my hair and I would plan what I would do to cope with that. I'd save as much cash as I could and get fitted for a wig that looks as close to my own hair as possible so that I know if the worst happens, I would still be comfortable with my appearance.

You say you hide it well enough, and it's quite possible it's not going to get worse again, so I'd spend a day working out styles to disguise it as much as possible so that I know I look good. I know you've probably being just that, but get a trusted friend to reassure you. If I'm right, stress can play a part in this, so it's important for you to worry as little as possible. Get reassurance from someone you trust.

You'll cope though, no matter how hard it might look. No one knows how strong they are until they have to be. You'll be fine, keep telling yourself that and it will be true.

    Best of luck.
