Freewheel problem

Took my spare wheels down from the shelf yesterday to give them an airing. After about 5-6 km the sprocket failed to engage. After a minute or so spinning it caught hold and off I went again. But it happened again twice, both times after freewheeling for a bit, so headed back home. Seems like the ratchet and pawl (?) mechanics got stuck, possibly after being unused for quite a while.
Can it be opened up and lubed? Do I need a new freehub? Self fix or LBS?
    Aksiums.

    Self fix.
    1. Cassette off.
    2. 15mm spanner to undo the axle nut.
    3. 17mm socket to undo the freehub retaining nut.
    4. Carefully slide off the freehub.
    5. Search the floor for the pawls and tiny springs (or catch them first).
    6. Clean freehub body, bush, pawls, springs and seals (one left in wheel)
    7. Holding freehub body horizontal, fill with light oil until it flows over the bush (do not use grease)
    8. Carefully re-fit and reassemble

Them fecking aksiums and mavic hubs.... grrrr...

I had a minor problem that changed to a major problem when reassembling I didn't coat the rubber seal with grease.

No grease inside the hub, just some good old grease on the outside to ensure that the rubber seals and keeps out the water.

As for the pawls, I have had some great flights of design fantasy trying to figure out how to do it better.

Not one original idea, everyone trying to solve the same problem.

    :)
