So we're 20k from home and my mates RD sheared completely off from wat we think was his chain bursting on one side only thus getting caught in RD and ripping off through back wheel.
Wats worse is the chain link breaker we had died too the threads weren't up to the job so we had to ring for a lift for him and our cycle was effectively over.

    Happy Monday guys

I had a hanger snap and pull my RD through the spokes of the rear wheel on one spin. Thankfully I was finished and was about 200m from my house when it happened.

The RD on one of my bikes decided to churn itself into pieces on the spokes while ascending the steep bit by the church in Howth.

Were you shifting under load at the time?

That reminds me. The RD on your Cervelo is dangerously close to the spokes when in the highest sprocket. Also, your bike is in your ma's gaff.

We are out cycling about a year through the winter too I might as ha but still class ourselfs as novices so we thought we could remove RD which we did but the chain breaker threads shredded so the chain was far to long to ride as a fixie

I might ad 1 cyclist stopped to offer help while a lot others just cycled past and with local club jerseys on too . Thought there would have been more empathy obviously not

I stopped in The Grange in Ballyboughal on Sunday last for a coffee and a lad there had his RD ripped off. He was able to set up as a single speed though.

A few weeks earlier I had a spill at low speed. I thought there was no damage but didn't realise that the RD dropout had bent very slightly. I didn't utilise the top sprocket for a few weeks but when I did in Howth, the RD caught the spokes.

Was there a few of you? Why would a rider stop when there is a gang already attending to matters? A rider or two, and I'd stop but more than that I wouldn't. Too many cooks...

I had to explain to an older man there recently why he shouldn't park his bike RD in against the grass mound beside the fence. I don't think that he got it though.

Would he not have too much chain?

Mate's commuter had its 8 speed RD just split in half but that was after six months in a damp shed and God knows what abuse prior to that.

It was my mate, coming up a ramp turning off the n4 he's easily 100k legs like tree trunks and can put some serious power down and definitely not subtle

Cracked one badly in a fall last year but managed to gently move it back into position. The crack was close to the end of the lug where the axle sits so it was held together by the pressure of the quick release. I cycled about 20k home very gingerly without changing gear. A second one failed on another bike and the derailleur promptly headed for the spokes. Had to call for help on that one. I suspect the hanger had been damaged at some earlier point - it certainly wasn't a power issue!
