im wondering if anyone could possibly give me a recommendation for a flower petal lens hood for my canon 600d. i had bought one online a month or two ago and found it doesn't screw on well and that the petals appear in some of the shots i take. i have a 18-55mm lens and also a 35-300mm telephoto lens

if anyone knows of ones that they are happy with could you let me know

    thanks

The official hood for the 18-55 is tiny, about 15mm deep so a petal hood would definitely protrude more than that. No idea about a 35-300 but I've a 70-300 and the hood is massive, about 10cm, so maybe its only at the wide angle end that the petal would be a problem.

Lens hoods should be paired with the lens and not the camera, manufactures will have specific hoods for a specific lens. The wider the lens is the smaller the hood has to be to stop it showing in or affecting pictures.

Also it is possible to mount a petal lens hood sideways which might result in it showing in the picture at the widest setting of the lens.
