Surprised theres not a thread for this already........Story of Australian girl's trek across the Aussie desert to the Indian Ocean. Doesnt sound so great but went to see it last night and I loved it. Mia Wosikowska is brilliant, I mean I thought she was great in Stoker but she's even better in this. Tight script, beautiful photography and some really moving moments, plus that dog should get an oscar. Seriously I was convinced that was Mia Wosikowska's own dog they used, the relationshp between them onscreen is so believable.

Looking forward to seeing it myself. The cinematography looks stunning. Fell in love with the trailer when I first saw it although that may be just because of the song chosen. Was Adam Driver any good in it?

If you enjoyed this, I highly recommend 'Into the Wild'. It stars Emile Hirsch who decides he's had enough of modern society and he's going to go live in Alaska. It's also based on a true story. Going by the trailer for 'Tracks', they're basically male/female versions of each other.

Adam Driver was ok, I mean to be fair to him he didnt have a lot to do. I went to see Into the wild when it came out and I loved that too but even though the stories are similar I just dont think Tracks is a female version of Chris Mc candless story. If you're being pedantic you could say that Into the wild is a rip off of Tracks because Robyn Davidson went on her journey in 1977 and Chris Mc candless went to the wilds of Alaska in 1992. Both great films though.

Wasikowska and Curran manage to capture the character's almost stubborn drive in a consistently engaging way - there's a welcome element of vagueness about the motivations (perhaps because the motivations were vague), instead focusing on the various challenges Davidson faced over the course of her months traversing the difficult terrain.

Being honest, it's not the sort of film I'd tend to warm to: a 'motivational' true life story, told pretty conventionally. But I actually found myself engrossed and quite moved by this story as its told here, and there's no shortage of beautiful imagery and moments. Curran also doesn't shy away from portraying the sometimes bleak reality of the adventure, and it's not quite the sort of film that will have you rushing out to train wild camels for your own journey through barren Australia. The film could, however, have benefited from losing of the more on-the-nose flashbacks and voiceovers - as mentioned, the film is undoubtedly at its best when keeping focused on the journey itself. Overall, though, this was a welcome surprise.

Fair enough. I'll judge for myself whenever I get around to watching it.

That's true. Although I don't think Chris McCandless was thinking about Robyn Davidson when he decided to go to Alaska. :P :D

I saw it at JDIFF and liked it a lot albeit with some reservations.

Re: the Chris McCandless comparisons, I thought Into the Wild dealt better with the survival and isolation aspects of trekking solo into the wilderness, areas in which Tracks comes up lacking. The script is reluctant to leave Robyn on her own for any significant period of time. It seems like her desire for solitude is being constantly thwarted by the sudden appearance of somebody or other. This was possibly deliberate and may have been how the real Robyn felt during her journey, but I doubt it. Rather it seems like the script writer didn’t understand the character and felt the need to fill screen time with as much dialogue as possible. Curran, a good director, is too in love in the scenery to care. Somehow the film reaches the same predictable conclusion as Into the Wild.

All the same, Wasikowska somehow makes it work and she is the main reason I preferred Tracks to Into the Wild. I always thought Hirsch, a fairly vacuous screen presence, was miscast as McCandless. Wasikowska can be a bit impenetrable, but she’s always interesting to watch. You might not fully understand her motivations but you never doubt that she has them.

I thought along with Locke, one of the surprises of 2014 so far. Mia Wasikowska is one of those young stars that's great when she's given great material and she knock's it out of the park, love her relationship with her Dog
the Death scene is definitely a heartbreaker as it comes out of nowhere
and Adam Driver is very good in a smaller role. Some of the camera work and locations are amazing too as is the musical score. It's a slow mover of a movie and I can see why many call this the female version of Into The Wild, but I thought this was slightly the better movie cause of the lead performance.

Saw this last week, the trailer just looked intruiging to me tbh, really enjoyed it except for the dog scene :(, went together well, ended well and Mias acting was flawless imho!
