    Hey,

Just a query in regards to a logbook for PPL. I've only started introductory flying in the last while and recently got a logbook. I'm wondering what is the best way to "back it up" so to speak.

For instance, if it got lost, stolen or damaged what would be the best and easiest way to get it replaced while still being able to verify that I'm not just making up the info?

While I could take pictures and fill the details into a new book - Do I need to have the instructors signature after each entry to make it binding etc?

I've had mine since last September and I don't back it up, just make sure its always put away in a safe place and kept in top condition. If you really, really need to back it up - Create a notepad file and add the date of the flight and your PIC plus the aircraft details including Reg and departure/landing runways including total airtime.

Photocopy the last couple of pages from time to time.

Get an app for logging hours and just duplicate everything. That way you can always export the hours if needed.

I lost my first logbook early on in training. But luckily I had photocopied all of it. Somehow it fell from my pocket while I was riding my motorcycle. I searched the entire route twice. No sign of it. If someone found it they never called or tried to return it. The loss still bothers me. My first solo entry was in it.

But with modern electronic log books it's easy to back up your flights.

Having said I haven't bothered to back up any subsequent logbooks. it's not as if anyone ever looks at them anymore.

Friend gave me a congratulations gift last night of a Jeppesen Professional Pilots logbook, he also gave me one a couple of years ago, well i don't need them as i have another one that will last for years and i also use Log10....

So if anyone is interested in a FREE logbook, you can have one of these, send me a PM with a postal address and its yours. As i said, i have two, so offer good for two people.

However, i leave this country in about 4 hours, so unless someone expresses an interest, they will stay here.

    Cheers

I have an excel spread sheet done based on mine, you add in the times in decimal and it will add it all up, with sub totals for PIC SEP Dual SEP Night etc etc
I Could email you it if you like. A good Ipad Iphone app would be good too with cloud back up. or when your page is full in your log, take a photo and store it in a googledrive or skydrive.
Also, if your training, your school will keep a record of your hours on a student sheet, so there are may ways to back it all up.

Photocopy it or scan it. The problem with other kinds of recording is that they don't record signatures and stamps from flight schools/instructors/IAA/other authorities, so if you lose your book, you may be asked to prove that you have what you claim to have.Copy all ratings pages and your medical when you renew it.

Thanks a million for all the responses guys. Photocopying it seems to be the resounding response! :)
