    I'm thinking of replacing my 1999 fiesta with a 2000 escort 1.4.
Has anyone driven/owned one of these?
Some online reviews are saying the 1.4 is sluggish

    Any opinions would be appreciated

Does such a thing even exist?

Pretty sure the Focus replaced the Escort in the late 90's. A late model Escort would be an awful heap compared to an early Focus.

Yes the escort was available up until 2000. Tbh they are dogs of cars though. You would be better of buying something Japanese Imo. Cars like a Honda civic or Toyota corolla are light years ahead of the escort.

they are probably the best budget motoring you can get, but the 1.4 isn't as sweet as the 1,25 zetec if that's what your Fester has. Expect to pay less than a grand nowadays for an NCTd example

Indeed not. The last CVH, a rattly clattery old Hector and the top-ends wear like buggery unless servicing is regular and top-notch.

Ya, my fiesta has the 1.25 and its a lively enough yoke.

The 1.4 in the escort is only 70bhp AFAIK and I presume it's a lot heavier than a fiesta

I just like the look of the escort but the tax and insurance on the 1.6 or 1.8 would cripple me ( I'm a 19 year old student)

I drove a 1.8 diesel Escort as a company car for a few months many moons ago, it was tragically slow with handling to match. I doubt the 1.4 is much better tbh. I'd stick with the Fiesta.

Alright I've decided against an escort now but might just buy a newer fiesta

Rather than start a new thread could anyone tell me how much my current car would be worth

    1999 fiesta 1.25 Ghia
    E/W
    Sunroof
    15" zetec s alloys
    Philips radio
    Tidy enough bodywork, not perfect
    119,000 miles
Timing belt and clutch were done at 95k
    Nct 03-15
    3 months tax

OP, I would see it as a step down from your current Fiesta. Better off holding out for a Focus, light years ahead of the Escort which is one of the reasons why Ford gave it a different name.

f you were only thinking of an 00 Escort, I'm guessing you aren't going to go up many years on a Fiesta...the facelifted model of yours only ran to 2002 and you'd pay a good bit more for an 03 newer model than you would for an 02 facelift. I'd say you might be better off sticking with your 99 if it's going OK until you can afford to come up a good few years. You could be swapping a reliable car for a pack of trouble otherwise, better the devil you know

Surely you can stretch to a Focus

Focus in 1.4 is dire though, I'd say the fiesta would be more lively tbh. 1.6 is a much better option if buying a focus.

Miles less dire than an Escort though.

I've driven a 1.4 focus a few times and the 1.25 in my fiesta is definatley faster

Just fancied a change but I'm thinking I might save up a bit and get a second car as a bit of a project

Thanks for all the help folks! :)

even if you can find an escort it will most likely be a dog.
we had a 99 model escort from new up untill last year.
Looked after well and ran great but underbody rust killed it so
    she was scrapped.
Save up and get a similar year focus, even the 1.4 focus is light years ahead of the escort.
