I have looked around and tried the activity log thing and deleted my browsing history, but still when i click the first letter of this person's name it pop's up first in the search bar.
Anyone know how to clear that search history so that doesn't happen surely i'm not the only one encountering this and has an issue with it?

You need to go to the persons page and block them. Then you won't see them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,574 ✭✭✭whirlpool

Go to your activity log. On the left hand side, select Searches. (If you can't see it, then click on More. Then Searches.) Then click on Clear Searches.

You don't need to do any more than that.

If still not satisfied, throw it in the ocean.

i done that clear searches but its still there when i click the first letter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭numbernine

Just because they come up when you type in the letter doesnt mean theyre the last person you searched. The less you go on their page the lower down in the list they'll be..i think.. But on the activity log you can delete your last searches.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

i deleted my last searches but its still there, i also read somewhere delete browsing history and all that but that doesn't work either.

Let's hope it's not her sister OP. They hate that.

I have this problem as well, any remotely attractive girl that appears on my timeline comes up automatically on the search due to my creepiness. I can only Facebook in private now. I'm a creep, I deserve this. :(

Its your own facebook account, your search history is only visible to you so what does it matter? Just don't let anyone get control of your account.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

No it's not in fact she doesnt know her i don't think ,but it's more for my annoyance to be honest i got a kid with her and she's in america and its just annoying you know looking at my kid elsewhere so stops me sleeping so i resolved to stop looking at the pics coz it's too easy when it comes up like that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

Surely there is a way to remove that name from popping up first time i click the letter

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,898 ✭✭✭✭Ken.

    I answered already. Block them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

I don't want to block it either, i just don't want it popping up at the top of the list every single time i type the letter.
So all in all i gather other than blocking it there is nothing else i can do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,293 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Jaysus I wasn't expecting a back story like that! Yeah just block whoever it is.

Keep searching for someone elses name beginning with the same first letter, this might relegate your 'old preference'...

Been trying that but it just seems to be stuck at the top ,its weird does nobody else encounter such an issue.

But you don't have to click on her name and see her pics do you ? It's just her name you are seeing ?

Unfriend them, it searches your friends first, or friend other people with the same first few letters.

She is not on my friends list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,293 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

You could just use some self control and not click on her name when it comes up, or just not search for it. Sounds like you'd be better off without facebook to be honest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

I don't use it to be honest this is not even my facebook im talking about i just happened to use it once or twice and searched the name and it seems to be permanently embedded in it .

Is there any way people know when you look at their page or search for them a lot?

I know when I look at my own page, the people whose pages I look at come up on my 'friends' bit (the thumbnail pics bit) and vice versa...can they see the same?

(yes you can tell I'm not a tech wiz)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

I am pretty sure they dont know who looks at their page or how many times.

No I don't think so, when I first started going out with my ex gf she said she had spent a lot time looking at my profile before we were friends on facebook and I was none the wiser.

No, most certainly not. You can rest easy. :) :pac:

Any app that claims it know who's viewing your profile is lying and possibly a scam.

Phew. Although there is always the fear of accidentally clicking 'add friend' when stalking a profile.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I don't use Facebook, but could you set up another Facebook account rather than using the current one? Why were you using somebody elses account to search for your ex's account?

I dont use it at all i dont even do online stalking,i aint that bothered much i just searched in some moments of curiousity, but still i am amazed that i cannot remove it from the search history what a crazy set up on facebook.
Wonder what the thinking is behind not letting u clear that from the history ,maybe they want facebook to be a personal thing so every single person has their own and doesnt use other's at any time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,574 ✭✭✭whirlpool

The only reason it should be showing up in the list as soon as you type the first letter of the name is if the person whose facebook account you are logged in to has them as a friend, or if they have many mutual facebook friends. Are there mutual facebook friends involved?

If you have cleared the search history and it is still showing up as the first in the list when you type the first letter of the name, that is bizarre. Maybe log out of the account, delete your browser's search history and cache, close the browser, restart the computer, log back in and try it again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 428 ✭✭amkin25

No not friends no mutual friends whatsoever, the only thing on that list i haven't done is restart the computer i done everything else .
Could restarting it make any difference? I think it's probably a thing facebook want to encourage people to keep their facebook as a personal thing for your own eyes only u know.
Because if it was my own facebook it wouldnt make so much a difference, but at the same time i think it's strange that maybe someone might want to forget someone and there the thing is reminding them constantly .
What a small world it has become there is no hiding on anyone anymore it seems lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,574 ✭✭✭whirlpool

Restarting your computer shouldn't make any difference. Doing all that stuff is the equivalent of burning down your house because you found a spider in your back garden. But if all else has failed....

I dunno, that's a weird one. You'd be better off going to the Facebook help community for an answer. https://www.facebook.com/help/community

There it is there ,people with the exact same problem but they dont give any solution they just totally sidestep the question
    and dont give a solution.

Go to the friends list associated with the Facebook account that you're logged in to, and take note of a few of the names that begin with the same letter you're dealing with.

Type those names into the search box and click on into that friend's page.

Do that a few times with a few of the different friends in the friends list whose names start with that same letter.

Eventually, when you type that letter in the search box, only people on the friends list should be suggested.

    That's not that bad..

It's when you accidentally like a status or a picture from a few months ago or something, that's when it's creepy.

    1. Go to your time line page.
    2. Click on ACTIVITY LOG.
    3. At left hand side menu click on SEARCH.
    4. At the top of the page you will find the CLEAR SEARCHES.

yeah i did i have been doing similiar things for a while now it doesn't make sense why the new searches aren't superseeding the older ones but maybe it has to reflect a longer period of time possibly maybe i have to do it again tomorrow and the next day and so on.
