Hi, was hoping to get some opinions on possible value of a BMW 523i. I have owned the car since new. The BMW mechanic who services it says it is has the sweetest engine he has come across for the year. It still drives and rides beautifully - like a limousine. Although it is not a sport it has very nice wheels and some nice extras including Xenons, dual climate control and factory fitted upgraded HiFi. Also where is a good place to sell a car like this?

    Pics would help alot.

At the end of the day its an almost 15 year old pre facelift of 2 generations back.

2k if it's a nice example, i would sell privately.

    NCT, Mileage?

2k sounds too optimistic to me, 1.5k more likely

It has an NCT, 90k miles. Low for the year

Need to see pics tbh, it could be an absolute donkey bodywise (no offense) regardless of how sound it is mechanically

    Not sport.
    523i and not 525i.

1.5k is what I would think, the above being the main points going against it. Even at 1.5 I would think you'd be doing well.

    About €1k worth.

Tax and being a non-sport is a killer.

Looks like the ad here for it here in carzone..

Nice looking, no pics of inside though.

I would give 1000 for a 520i which is cheaper to tax and there is plenty for sale.A very good 523i with 1 owner and a decent nct ,you would be lucky with 1250 euro.it also might take some time to get that.A years tax is nearly the same price as the car.All the same a good e39 is a nice friend to have.

    You got the correct car!

That's a February car right? Should be lots of NCT so?

Should mention that in the ad if so.

Can't see it being worth more than €1750 though.

If I was looking at that car the first thing that would put me off calling is the bottom where it says ad last updated 83 days ago. I would assume it was well sold or no longer for sale.

I'd put it on done deal rather than carzone.

Does it have leather? Is it automatic? (apologies if i've missed this information).

    As mentioned, NCT as well.

All of this is more important than your views on the suppleness of the suspension!

No leather ,is a shame ,good motor otherwise.

Most leather at this age is not good. The upholstery in the car is very fresh, in good condition

If someone gave me €1500 I would be more than happy

It's a nice car but you are still looking for M-Sport 2002 money imo

I guess everyone is different but I bought an e60 early last year and only considered m sports cars with leather. Not having both is a big negative from a sales point I'd think. I wouldn't have bought a car without these things no matter how cheap it was but I think you'll certainly have to price your car lower than others if you want to get attention and shift it on. If it's up 83 days it's obviously priced too high.

My questions aren't so much for you to answer me, but rather for you to address in your add.

But you don't even have a car for sale, so of course you would be happy.

One could change the manifold to rrelease a few more horses to make it the same as a 525i.:)

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Sounds like the price is too high. I was advised that a lot of Polish guys were buying them at that price up to a while ago but it seems I missed the boat. Some tax thing in Poland had just changed before I put it on Carzone.

€1200-€1500 tops would be my guess. Good luck with the sale.

I know a clean 2001 520i SE with a few nice goodies such as sport steering wheel high cluster with all pixels fixed on it and obc pixels fixed too.
Could not sell for 1000. In the end it was gone for 900 euros. That was last week.

If anyone remembers the 525i e39 sport 2004 I bought in October 13 it was €2,450 with 97,000 miles on it. Genuine sport model too, so I cant see a 2000 car being worth anything over a grand. I wouldnt expect to sell my own for more than 2 grand now. Lovely cars, but no market for them. Great when buying!

I sold a 2001 black E39 Auto, 80k miles, pretty mint, lots of money spent on it for €2200 2 months ago.
