I recently inherited a house which has planning permission in place for an extension. As the new owner of the property can I build the extension in line with the permission or do I need to re-apply to council?

The planning permission will generally relate to the property and not to the property owner. Check the conditions of the permission, but in the normal scheme of things, yes you can build in accordance with the permission. Get professional advice before starting building, it's a bit more involved now than before.
