Looks like a possibility both Bewleys and autocenter are below the level of the new road..

Burst water mains, none of the properties where damaged nearby, but apparently it was like rapid water flying down the Clondakin Rd.

When did it happen? I passed by Newlands Cross at 5pm and there was nothing unusual...

Sunday, it mainly affected the inbound N7 which reopened at 3 a.m. this morning (Mon.)

I wonder is the contractor who fixed it on Sunday doing a warranty repair today

It was SDCC's problem last weekend, but only until Wednesday...

traffic seems to be stopped dead

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Traffic has been brutal in the wider area. Imagine one of the busiest roads in the country closed at one of the busiest afternoons for traffic in the year. I bet no one will be held responsible though

Now I see, SDCC patched it up on Sunday knowing that it would be Irish Water's problem from yesterday.

    Nice one lads.

Ironically, it made my trip home easier. Avoiding Terenure due to chaos, I flew down the Naas Road to the M50 junction and onto the M50 southbound. Quicker than my usual trip through town!

Heads should roll for this though. Disgraceful thing to have happen at this time on a Bank Holiday Friday.

2 head engineers from BAM fired for hitting the main, I hear with was an old cast iron mains that was hit\cracked so it very hard to stop the crack from travelling down the pipeline.. expect a lot of breaks along the line in coming weeks\months. Dont like to see anyone lose there job, but 2 people getting paid well in excess of 225K-255K per person shouldn't allow this happen

How could they be sacked on the spot though? Surely employment law would give them a chance to defend themselves?

If it was a council employee, s/he would probably get a raise and a bonus :)

if they are old cast iron mains, would they not be replaced while the road is being dug up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭chatterbox

The mains are getting replaced for definite now :) ... I'm sure there was a plan to replace them.. I presume that plan didn't involve bursting the old main first :)

Regarding the firing of the 2 engineers, most engineers at that level are self employed daily rate so employment can be terminated in multiple ways that wouldn't have the red tape of full time employees...

Mains were replaced last night according to SDCC.We had no water from 8pm-6am because of it.

Surprising, surely it would have been far more lucrative for someone to rip it all up in a few years?
