Girl name (mtf)

I'm not ready to officially change name yet (not going full time until I'm more passible), but I want to start using my girl name on a few semi-official things so when I do it officially the name will already have a history. I was going to go with Mary Ciara (not that I particularly love those names but they have the same initials as my birth names).

My Dad is the only one in my family that supports me, some of my family have cut contact. Do you think as a sign of gratitude maybe I should ask him to name me instead, just like he did when I was a baby?

I have only just come out so maybe I'm not the right guy to give an opinion but I think you are very brave and I wish you all the best.

If your dad is supportive then it makes sense to ask his opinion on a name change. Remember he helped name you at birth so even though he's supportive, he might be a little sad that "his" name for you will be gone.

Ask your Dads opinion but make sure you are happy with it.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I think it's really sweet that you want to ask him for his input. :) It would be a lovely gesture on your part to discuss it with him but ultimately the final decision has to be yours.
