.....as a landmark birthday present and I've been given a decent budget.

Golfer plays of a mid teen handicap. He's a big bloke - well over 6 feet. His current golf equipment is rubbish!

Good quality and condition used clubs would be ok. "Game improvement" or forgiving clubs would be best I think.

    So I'm looking for:

    Driver, 3 wood, hybrid.

4-pw, sw, maybe a lw. Putter.

A decent cart bag too maybe?

    Any suggestions?

If he's well over 6ft then chances are he will benifit from a custom fit. Why not get a voucher for halpenny, mcguirks etc?

I'd also recommend going down the voucher route here. Only the player himself can know what clubs best suits their swing and overall game. I'd be gutted if someone bought me a new set of clubs and I couldn't hit the ball out of my way with them when they could've easily got me a voucher and let me test out a few in the shop first.

I'd venture to say most Golfers would rather pick their own clubs
As well as everything else it has to fit your eye
Well my eye for me anyway

Maybe I'm a bit OCD ......did I only wash my hands twice before typing this 🙇

would a voucher for foregolf be a potential?

Custom fitting isn't a good idea currently I reckon. He currently plays stock irons and grips them short with excessive flex at the hips.

A few € spent of lessons to sort out a few issues at address might be a much better idea.

The voucher idea is a good one though.
