Are these VAG fault codes really bad?

My 2001 Audi TT has been acting up a little recently, taking a while to start a few times. Yesterday it would not start, thankfully I had a booster pack in the back which got it going. So I thought it was just the battery and planned to get a new one, however I used the Torque app with the Bluetooth adaptor and got these fault codes.

A friend said I should not drive the car. Does anyone know what this may be?

    Camshaft tensioner??
Was there a rattle out of it?

No I don't think there was any noticeable rattle. Another mate said it might have skipped a tooth on the timing belt?
Kenny what does that mean exactly? Definitely should not drive it?

Wouldn't be driving anywhere. Could be a fault with the timing belt tensioner or low oil pressure as in the second link.

I had similar faults on my octavia. It was caused by a pipe in the sump with a mesh getting clogged which in turn caused oil starvation to the engine.

    The pipe was around €10.

But quite a bit more than that to repair if you were to leave it in.

So I went and got a battery, car starts fine now and the check engine light turned off after a few minutes driving. Happy Days.

I'm going to get a friend with a proper vag com computer to check it anyway just in case, but hopefully it was just that. Thanks for the help lads

i think the cam sensor is common to fail on these engines, i have a a4 b6 1.8t and my crank sensor went last week, it is linked with cam sensor in terms of communication, i think if the cam sensor fails the ecu can take a temp reading from crank sensor, the cabling just becomes brittle because of the heat from the engine and wear and tear, i would be changing it personnally as they arent expensive

Assuming you had a low battery, and the car turned really slow and failed to start, it would not be unusual to see a whole pile of faults as a lot of systems and sensors on the car would throw a fault with low voltage feed.

Yeah a main Skoda garage. Ansley Williams in santry. But as I said it was a sump off job and that is where the bulk of the cost is.

I think all in it was about €300 euro to fix

So I'm told I need a camshaft position sensor. Got it pricd at €98, but I found one for €15 on ebay here: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Audi-TT-1-8-T-1-8-T-quattro-Camshaft-Position-Sensor-058-905-161-B-/230943328544?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c54b8920

    Any difference does anyone know?

It is highly unlikely that you need a cam sensor. They are not troublesome on those engines and even when they do fail they don't result in the fault codes you are seeing.

If I were you I would get an oil pressure test done and get the sump removed and cleaned out and the oil pump pickup pipe replaced. As already mentioned above.

So just an update. I got a quote on a cam sensor from a motor factors at €98. Went on ebay and got one for £10 delivery in 2 days. Fitted it and the car has been absolutely perfect since. Instantly felt a lot nicer to drive, no warning lights, and starts on the button every time.
