Saw this just now.. thought it may be of interest to someone.
I might give it a go after I use up my Chain-L supply.
Don't like the application technique in that video. The lube is supposed to go in the chain, not all over the cassette.

So you're not supposed to lube the cassette at all?
Wouldn't it need something after a good degreasing?

I usually spray lube around the cassette aswell as chain.

Have you been able to get any Chain-L recently? My source has dried / been arrested / gone bust / or won't send to Ireland?

The purpose of chain lube is to prevent crap from getting in and around the link pins, where it causes friction and premature wear.

It serves no purpose on the cassette other than attracting crap which then gets on to the chain.

    That makes sense.
But I how do you do to prevent surface rust appearing on the cassette teeth?

A few times I've removed my cassette, given it a really good clean, then lubed the cassette and chain a little before heading out.
Cycled for 4 hours in the freezing rain, been too tired/ cold to clean the bike til the next day and the cassette teeth were covered in surface rust.
(I presumed from cleaning it so well then not lubing it enough before heading out).

If you're riding in the rain, spin the pedals a few times to shake off excess water, then wipe the chain and cassette down with a rag.

I didn't realise that's all you had to do to prevent rust on the cassette teeth.
    Cool - thanks.

I'm on the same bottle for over a year now - I got it from Urban Hunter in the UK but they have closed down.

I'm not sure I want to keep using it though. This winter I got a week of rain based commuting before the chain needed a clean and relube but even with that regime the chain lasted approx 5k before it reached the wear limit and I would have expected more (maybe unfairly).

I'm tempted by this Muc Off Ceramic wet lube thing : http://road.cc/content/review/99691-muc-c3-ceramic-lube-wet
