Contract question

    Hi,

Quick question, hopefully someone sees this soon.

When you're handed the contract, is that the job offer and if you're fine you accept it or leave it, or can you negotiate that?

Working in a place for the last 3 months and been on very low pay (job title also has student placement in it, and I'm not a student). They've given me a contract renewal but same job title and pay. I've got the contract, haven't signed it yet, but wandering are these usually open to negotiation?

Job is in IT (mainly SQL and Excel), rather than a normal student job

Until you sign you can ask for changes. They can just refuse

SQL and Excel is pretty standard work in IT and can be a student job. Are you coding or just writing queries?

Both, albeit more writing queries than coding, but still do a bit of it with PL/SQL

What is the salary? We can tell you if you're being underpaid.

Also, what is your education and previous work experience?

To answer your original question, it's all up for negotiation.

Salary is 20k. Education is degree and masters in Business Information Systems. Work experience had 6 month placement and tutoring in college for 2 years in a bunch of different subjects(Java, SAP, Android, Excel etc)

Salary sounds low but fair tbh imo for what you are doing

I'm a masters student and I have 18k scholarship. By the way, I guess graduate positions and junior developer roles are 19-20k, but is there any scale more detailed than just junior-middle-senior? For example having 2-3 years of experience and being somewhere between junior and middle I find it hard to answer on the interview "what salary are you looking for"? If you can describe such scale based on your experience, would be very helpful. I'm talking about software engineer (developer) roles or maybe research (analytics) roles too.
