Dead CPU fan header

Ordered a new PC from Hardewareversand and my brother put it together. I have it two weeks tomorrow and I'm thinking about sending back the motherboard. No matter what my brother did he couldn't get the CPU fan header to work, he said it's totally dead. There's an optional fan header and that is working o.k.

It's an Asus ROG motherboard and my brother recommended it as a top quality one. Everything else on the Motherboard seems fine and the boot post LEDS codes seem normal. But I'm wondering is a dead CPU fan header a bad sign and should I return it to Hardewareversand? Or is a dead CPU fan header no biggie and could/should I still keep the board?

If ye recommend returning it, what are Hardewareversand like? I would be looking for a replacement board and not a refund or anything. Looking at the Hardewareversand site they only speak about product revocation and give a graph of what you'll lose in original value. Used item ect, packaging opened ect. I couldn't see anything about product replacement and I only want to replace like with like. Anyone been through this process before and have ye any tips? Help and advice would be really appreciated.

The CPU fan header has a safety feature that will shutdown your system in the event of a failure. You can bypass the CPU header, set it to ignore in the Bios and keep using the motherboard. But if you are using another fan header and it then fails, it will not shut down like the CPU fan header would. So you run the risk of overheating and seriously damaging your CPU in the process. Now that may never happen or it could happen next week. Return the motherboard and get a replacement.

Cheers mate, I've heeded you advice. Hardewareversand mention in their T&Cs about printing out one of their return stickers which has their return address on it. But when I log in, this sticker cannot be found on their site and 3 email later, I'm still waiting for them to email it to me so I can print it and return the motherboard to them. Does anyone here know what the return address actually is?
