Advice on new laptop please (with working WIFI!)

    Hi,

I bought a Samsung Ativ notebook in January with Windows 8 and it has caused me nothing but problems. With assistance from Samsung support I've tried everything, but the WIFI only works about 5% of the time. I've upgraded to 8.1 with all the latest patches, updated drivers, restored to factory settings multiple times etc. but nothing has fixed it. Head wrecking to say the least! So I've finally given up the ghost and have agreed to return it and get a refund.

I'm now looking to buy a new laptop, with a budget of approx €500. It's mainly for social use so it doesn't need to be top spec (last one had Intel Core i3 processor and that was perfect).

I'm reluctant to buy a Windows 8 laptop again, to avoid the same nightmare (I was told it was a Windows issue). Is it still possible to buy a new Windows 7 laptop anywhere?

Or has anyone purchased a new Windows 8/8.1 laptop recently that they could recommend that's stable and has working WIFI?

    Apologies for the long post!
    Thanks :)

You could buy a laptop with no OS and purchase Windows 7 (Maybe from here).
Seems you were unlucky, Wi-fi isn't normally an issue on Windows 8, At least not on any that I've heard.

Or you could go for one of these - (I think some have Windows 7)
    SaveOnLaptops

    At current rates £399stg = €484.59

I sell notebooks myself and work in IT. Nothing yet has had issues with Windows 8
Models i've sold and fixed for customers (for other reasons then wifi :) )
    Packard Bell
    Asus
    Acer
    HP

    All running solidly on Win8

HP 250 G2 would prolly do if you just need a good browsing laptop

    Thanks for the feedback!
It sounds like I got a dodgy model - glad to know that in general Windows 8 / 8.1 is stable.
