Car Horn beep annoyance -argh

To the lovely lady in the silver car followed by the nice gentleman and his partner in their following car taking a right off the Sandford Road this morning.

I just want to say a massive thank you to both of you for individually beeping your horns at me (not that I didn't hear the First Lady) but the gentleman also happened to wave his big fat thick finger at me. I regret any delay I may have caused while on my daily call to my mother in hospital (which is what I was doing and listening to her upset).

In all my years driving, I would NEVER blow my horn at a pedestrian.
    Rant over!

Nice to see more considerate drivers on the road.

Personally myself I would have just ran you over.

Really? It's there for warning other road users, including those on foot. Perhaps you could consider using it in times of necessity, like those people did this morning.

Were you in their way, or on the middle of the road walking very slowly? I'd have beeped you too, if you were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,461 ✭✭✭Bubbaclaus

Why did you cross the road while clearly not paying attention?

They did you a favour by pointing out how much of an idiot you are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,454 ✭✭✭NSAman

Isn't it nice to see people warning you.

You could have been in hospital with Mother based on what I see people walking across roads on phones not paying attention to the traffic.

to be honest it is quite irritating.. pedestrians walking out without looking.. but its the drivers fault if they hit you!

Imagine walking in front of a shooting range then suing because you got shot

Were you on the road when you should not have been?

They are supposed to use the car horn to warn other road users of their approach or to prevent accidents.

As a pedestrian, if you are crossing the road they're turning into, then they are required to yield to you. So I would have told them to go fnck themselves.

ya the drivers are in the wrong there.. but not if he was standing in the road on the phone.... more clarification is needed here!

Erm - this is why I don't beep at Pedestrians!

    You must always yield to:
    • pedestrians already crossing at a junction,
    • pedestrians on a zebra crossing,
    • pedestrians on a pelican crossing when the amber light is flashing, and
    • pedestrians and traffic when you are moving off from a stationary position (for example from your position at a stop sign or a parking space).

I recommend this matter be moved further up the scale. Only Joe could deal with this. Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe etc.

I was already crossing at a junction (minor junction) more than half way across and picked up the pace.
I was further down the road when the massive a$$hole beeped after the first beep (that was also when I was on the footpath).

Don't know why people are giving the OP a hard time, if he's telling it the way it happened then the dude sticking his finger up sounds like an asshole. So he does.

Why let it piss you off? I get my fair share of beeps both in car and on foot (sometimes warranted/sometimes not), if I were to get upset everytime I'd be one miserable fooker.

I never quite understand why people get upset, angry and sometimes retaliate to being beeped at.
Think about it, someone in a car disapproved of whatever I was doing and pressed a little button to display it.

That's all it is, ...don't get stressed about someone in a car pressing a button.

In the grand scheme of things perhaps BUT when your emotions are already running high (as I said in my OP, I was talking to my distressed mother in hospital) having not one but two jack asses who clearly doesn't know the rules of the road beep their horn at you - doesn't f-ing help....

Are you sure the cars weren't closer when you stepped out which then caused the 1st car to brake hard and in turn causing a chain reaction with cars behind.

Quite possible you could have caused an accident and just merrily walked on cause you were so busy on the phone(sorry to hear your mum is not well).

I wouldn't be able to keep count the amount of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians I nearly make contact with on a daily basis.

Sure last night while already half way around a junction a woman decides to just walk out and was an inch away from going under the rear 2axles(3 wheels) I was going through a green and from what I could see she was to busy talking to her friends..

I understand what you are saying but hand on heart the cars could not have been closer when I stepped out as I was half way across the road when I heard the first car.
Also these cars were taking a right turn off a major road to a minor road which means that they both would have indicated, slowed down (well you'd gotta hope) and also I have the RIGHT OF WAY!

then from what you have said they definitely should have slowed and you should have been safe to cross.

I really hate walking when you look to see anyone is turning and no indicators used.

I wouldn't worry about it let them tools on their way plenty of better things to be thinking about. Think happy thoughts

If two separate people beeped you, you were probably doing something you shouldn't.

Ande dear, I'll give you one piece of advice, posting in AH about something that raised your blood pressure is only likely to give you a full on cardiac arrest. You'll be poked and prodded in here until you resemble the Incredible Hulk!

You know what happened, you know the dude was an ass, don't be defending yourself to folk on the interwebz who'll pick apart anything you say. After Hours is much more fun when you tell yourself (but not everyone else coz thems against the rulez) that everyone is a troll!

By that logic, any argument is automatically won by the side who has more people on it.

If two separate people beeped, that goes to show the level of ignorance of the rules of the road among people.

Were you crossing at a pedestrian crossing or jaywalking?

Did you look before you crossed or go off sound as you said you were half way across when you heard the first car.

there's 2 sides to every story but next time when you're on the phone be more careful when crossing the road, especially a minor road off a major.

Continuing the AH cross examination can I put it to you that you were talking and listening, presumably, on a mobile phone. You were distracted. Your hearing was focused on your phone. Your concentration was not what it was.
Further, I put it to you that we have no evidence from the motorists and that your version of events has more to do with the feeling of being affronted by those motorists, particularly the one with the allegedly small "nether regions".
Really, it's a job for Joe!

Are you paying any attention whatsoever? Well? Are you?

If you were, you'd know that she can't call Joe because she's on the phone to her mam.

Unless the OP has a second phone, in which case the whole story needs to be re examined.

If I wasn't on the phone - bear in mind - I do look before I cross and this happened. I would have turned heel and stood in front of the gentlemen with the tiny appendage with this partner's face stuck in her mirror adminstering the war paint.

I would have knocked in his window, grabbed his finger and shoved it up his nose.

However, I do not tolerate violence - just in the mind :)
