Has anyone seen the new Pioneer turntable? I'm too new to post a video but you can check it out on YouTube. Unsurprisingly, it's almost identical to a Technics 1210. It's not in full production yet but I'm quite excited by it. I won't be replacing my 1210s but it's good that vinyl is back in the spotlight. There's life in the old dog yet.

Seems to be just a concept at the moment, i.e. that it is just a sprayed painted 1210.

According to the video below, Pioneer are just putting the idea out there that they may be willing to produce a new turntable depending on demand, and also depending on what people may want in a new product. Market research.

I assume Traktor and Serato is a big part of their thinking. It might be good for vinyl sales in an indirect way, but nostalgia isn't something I'd associate with Pioneer. I'd still like it to happen all the same.

put a usb port for memory keys on it, and a usb out and make it a fully vinyl / digital deck..

    now THAT would be awsome..

Apart from the music quality argument give me one good reason to go back to vinyl.

    What's the 'music quality' argument?

Sorry meant the sound quality as in 'its sounds better on vinyl'

Yeah, a lot of people think it sounds better. On the other hand, some people think that hearing dust crackle in this day in age is ridiculous.

To answer your original question: if you need reasons to go back to vinyl then it's not for you. It's there if you want it, but nobody should be trying to convince you that it's better than CDs, laptops or whatever. That conversation is a waste of time.

For me, the one big advantage of vinyl is that it's led to a certain type of DJ in 2014. Years ago a lot of people wanted to be DJs, and to be a DJ you needed to play on vinyl. So there was a lot of poor DJs around because vinyl takes a bit of getting used to. But that's not the case anymore. Nowadays if you want to be a DJ you pick up a software package and a midi controller. So most of today's superficial DJs are laptop based. When I see a laptop in the corner of a bar I don't know what I'm getting. But when I see a box of records I think differently. It's almost like a quality-control thing. When I see vinyl I know this person has invested a lot of time, money and patience into what he's about to do.

Anyway, that's how I feel. And by the way, I'm not an old dinosaur. I'm only 29. I also don't hate digital DJing. In fact, my favourite DJ for the past few years has been Surgeon. I think he's a better DJ since he switched to Ableton. I just appreciate the patience and money that goes into being a vinyl DJ at a time when everything is so accessible and cost-effective. I collect vinyl myself so I guess I just appreciate other people that share my passion. But to each their own. As long as people are playing good music I'm happy.
