I had one but not an FR and had another car with that engine. They are a nice car and can handle high miles with relative ease.

The main downsides are the interior doesn't have the same quality of other cars in its class (never bothered me tbh), there's a massive blindspot caused by the front pillar that can catch you out on blind corners and the ride is appalling. It's too stiff and jarring to be in any way comfortable. Seats are great though, they handle well, have a decent spec and are a bit different.

Engine-wise it's a common engine and usually pretty reliable. Power delivery is a bit all or nothing meaning it's annoying around town but if you're on main roads it's a decent overtaker. Sounds very noisy though, even compared to other diesels. I'd have a look for one with Xenons as the standard headlights are poor enough but avoid the BTCC bodykit as the quality of it isn't great.

that's a great run down thanks! im presuming the engine is the same as the one from the mk5 golf. I currently drive a mk5 golf and the engine is probably my favourite part of the car!

Depending on which Golf you have this is the newer CR engine instead of the older PD engines so is a little smoother. For the most part any of the Golf problems are replicated on these so you probably know the score on that front.
