AC Repair Specialist

    Hi,
My 2007 VW Passat is having AC issues. It is very slow to cool and sometimes it won't cool at all especially on a hot day if the car has been parked in the sun. I have done a lot of research online and there seems to be a problem with the refrigerant control valve RCV on these units. Lots of people have had the gas removed, replaced the valve and had the unit regassed and it works 100%. Others degas, then remove and clean the valve and get it regassed and it works fine.
However, in this country garages only seem interested in replacing the compressor. I suppose it's their way of making a few quid. Is there anyone around who will actually remove a compressor and rebuilt it or replace the RCV Valve?
I have even contacted a well regarded Dublin AC specialist and he said he only replaces the compressor, he doesn't repair or rebuild them.

Has anyone had any luck in this area?

VAG Compressors of that era tend to go. I've had it on two different cars in the past. On one occasion the garage tried everything to avoid replacing the compressor as the warranty was with them and there was no goodwill forthcoming. In the end they had to stump up for it. I have seen them on eBay a lot if you wanted to try a secondhand part. I think the bill each time including re-gassing was around €7-800.

I'm aware that the VAG compressors are not great but it's a shame that garages and even specialist equipment technicians are only interested in replacement rather than repair.
Has anyone found an AC specialist who will work on or repair a compressor?
