Poker Cab to Neo Geo Cab

I've decided (after not thinking about it very much) that I'm gonna try to "convert" my Noraut poker cabinet into a Neo Geo cabinet.

Now by convert I really mean I'm just going to make it look like (as much as I possibly can given the actual size of the cabinet) some form of neo geo cabinet. Though it will really just be a mame cab. With more buttons than a neo geo cabinet.

I got the idea from looking at the other "conversions" that have been done over the years and thought to myself, hell, I could do a job as bad as them :)

Over the next few months my creation could grace this website!

    Dear Glob,
You are sure to do better than those two monstrosities!
Especially with the local Brain Trust at your disposal!

That remains to be seen! :)

On that note, what is the recommended minimum size for a 2 player control panel? Especially given the fact that I'm gonna need about 18 buttons and 2 joysticks for the xbox.

The cabinet is only 19 inches wide. I reckon I'm gonna need one wider than that. My Supreme cabinet is 24 inches wide and about 12-14 inches deep, which I've always thought was too big anyway.

I was wondering if there was anyone out there with the soldering skills to hel pme out with a couple of xbox pad hacks, as seen in this pic below?

I have a few pads lying about the place and although the law of averages says that I would probably hack one of them to some extent, I'd rather not ruin a lot of good joypads to feel the "triumph" of managing to successfully hack the A & B buttons of one pad!!

Now in my own opinion I don't have much in the way of retro goodies to pawn for these services, but hopefully I'd have something to offer someone!

All I'd need done is the hacks (which is the hard part, I know), I'd finish off the buttons/stick wiring etc myself.

I realise that this dude only has 7 buttons wired for some reason, instead of 8.

Honestly you'd be better off buying a jamma to xbox coverter.
You might save a few quid but your head will be wrecked fixing ****.
What games you planing on playing on the xbox?
You gonna mod it for coin ops?
I'd hate to see something end up in the hall of shame.

I've got Final Burn Legends running on the xbox at the moment, lots of Neo Geo/Capcom/Cave stuff on there. Will probably throw on some older games too in some form of Coin-Ops ... think I've got Coinops 2 and Coinops Re-Ignite somewhere on my laptop, so I'll pick whichever one looks the best (or at least will run most of the games I want ... I've had some bad luck with coin-ops in the past).

Unfortunately I think that no matter what way I connect a control panel to the xbox ... pad hack, i-pac, or jamma to xbox (which I don't know if I could use anyway) it's still gonna be a hall of shame contender, due to the fact that the cp will be jutting out on either side a few inches to accommodate the room required for 2 players.

In my mind I'll see perfection though ... :pac:

p.s. the reason the xbox to jamma harness won't work is that I wont be using an arcade monitor ... which I assume I would need?

    One of these might help.
If you are using an Xbox as the beating heart of the system then this will supply let you use a PC stick as the root for a hack.
In fact, pick up a cheap and cheerful pair of arcade sticks and just wire them up to some decent buttons and sticks on your control panel.
Just a thought, seeing as the Xbox control port is essentially a usb port.

Oh, any excess buttons could be mounted on the sides, Pinball style, handy for credits and exiting menus too.

I've actually got one of those usb to Xbox attachments. It never crossed my mind to try a USB controller/stick on it though!! Might give my modded Namco stick a go later on :-)

Tried the Namco stick with the USB to Xbox cable. No joy.
