Holding Events Near Residence

Hi all, I've trawlled Google for some info on this but cant find anything.

I live in the country and have some farmland belonging to a local farmer adjacent to my garden.
Over the weekend the farmer held a motor racing event that went on on Saturday and Sunday.
The campervans and cars were all parked about 200 yrds from my house and the racing took place just in front of them.
The racing cars had nk exhausts and the noise at times was a bit much along with the fumes.
The farmer isnt the type of fella you could approche about this and doesnt give a toss about anyone but himself.

My question is whether it was legal to hold this event so close and without agreement to dwellings and if not how who should I address my concerns to in future if required ?

Any information would be most welcomed.

Revenue would be my first port of call. Did s/he declare any income from the event. The revenue guys are like a dog with a bone if they think you owe them a penny.

For noise complaints, the local authority can be contacted, or failing that, the EPA.

If the field is zoned for agricultural amenity, it's hard to see how an event such as this could lawfully be held without planning permission.

Was the actual racing held in the field or on the surrounding roads? If it was the roads, then the Gardai should also be informed.

How do you know this? Bad blood there already between you and him?

Make enquiries at your local council offices and Garda station.

Let them do the enforcement. Generally, an event licence might be required from the council and the Gardai need to be informed. He also needs to have the appropriate insurance in place.

An event licence is certainly required if there'll be an attendance of 5,000 or more.

It's unlikely to apply here in this case. Best course of action is to contact the council and the local Garda station. Also find out what other neighbours think. This is the free option. If the farmer is a pain in the ass perhaps the leal route is the only way.

I suppose the question is - is it likely to happen again?

I know this because I've lived near him for the best part of 10 years.

I myselof have never had any issues with him but I know of plenty businesses and individuals who have.

So No, no bad blood between us.
