Really liking the i40. Haven't much experience with them. Would they be reliabale? Like the fact that it is cover until 2018

Yes as modern diesel cars go the i40 would be one of the more reliable ones. Try and find a UK 136bhp version, only the 115bhp version bar the rare auto were sold in Ireland.

One ofthe reasons for sticking with the VW's was the re-sale value.

Would the re-sale value on th i40 be any good?

    Thanks,

Hyundai's resale value is not as good as VW's but then again they are cheaper to buy in the first place. So look at it this way, unless you are buying new, resale values are relevant. You cannot have it both ways unfortunately, buying it cheaper second hand and then expect to get top money for it when you sell it afterwards. I doubt you will trade up to a 2013 Passat for similar money as a 2013 i40.

To be honest, one owner's comments is hardly the benchmark regarding mpg. Too many personal factors to take into account such as personal expectations, what he is comparing it against, driving conditions and driving habits of the individual.
