    Hi folks,
We're based in Dublin and looking to just get in the car and drive somewhere and stay one or two nights. I'm a Dub, and she's from Laois so those 2 counties are out.

Can anyone recommend a county we can just drive to and relax? We're not looking to go on a mad session or anything, maybe just a bit of scenery and a nice dinner.

I suppose as long as we can drive to it within an hour or two, and confidently get a decent hotel that isn't sold out, then it should be fine.

    Thanks.

Wineport lodge outside athlone or viewmount house in longford. Wineport is on the lake but on the expensive side. Viewmount house has one of the best restaurants in Leinster

Kilronan castle in Co Roscommon is lovely ad have some great deals. Also check out her sister hotel Lough Rynn in Co Leitrim. Both lovely. Great for a couples break.

I second Druid's Glen - been there twice and have to say the restaurant is amazing plus it's close to Dublin. If you can afford to splash out - the upgraded rooms are great plus we used the spa and treatments were lovely too.

If you don't mind a drive -Slieve Donard Resort is one of my favourite hotels! It's very romantic with the mountains in the background and beside the sea. We had a room sea view room over the spa area.

What about Kilkenny? Not too far from Dublin - we staying in Ormande Hotel or else I've heard Lyrath Hotel is nice too and might be a better location to relax.

Spanish Point down in Clare is beautiful, just back from a weekend in Westport too which was great.
