    Hiya,
We are looking to get the back of house and footpaths around the house finished and are considering using imprinted concrete - it's approx 220sq mts so there is a lot of it.....
Does anyone here have any experience of this product and can you advise of any potential pit falls or questions we should ask.
All advice is greatly appreciated :)

Have had this done ourselves - only a much smaller area.

Ideal if you can get dye mixed with concrete in truck - but not always possible due to concrete company having to wash mixers. Can be patchy if poured on after laying.

Don't do it if there is any chance at all of rain. And get it sealed as soon as possible. If dye is simply layered on top, be careful power hosing in the future as it is very easy to wash away the top coat of dye.

Ensure plenty of expansion joints and be careful about the imprint mats. Some designs allow a lot more mistakes than others.

Thanks Tedimc, I have a hard landscaping company doing it for me as it is just too big an area to DIY. Once you put the sealer on did you find it slippy and how long did it look shiny?

Hi there, no I don't remember it being slippy at all actually. The imprint was of small cobble type bricks, so this might have added to the friction but I don't think slippy ness will be an issue for you. Same with shiny too, I suppose it looked wet for a while, but only really a matter of days. Neither of these were really an issue for us to be honest.

Our colour was a kind of earthy brown, so maybe a jet black may look shiney but I wouldn't worry about those aspects too much.

I went for European fan pattern, which essentially looks like cobble lock. The colour is adobe gold, which is a brown colour. Adding the dye by hand after the concrete has been poured with this particular colour and pattern is the way to go as it means the colour varies which is what it would do with real cobbles. Once you seal it it will be a little shiny initially and may even sueak a little when you walk on it but that only lasts for a few days. With regards to applying the sealent a standard soft bristled brush is probably easiest and its important to regulate the amount of sealant applied or it can pool in areas. As you are having someone do it for you I would go and take a look at some work that they have done already as a badly done job looks awful, there are plenty of bad examples to be seen in most estates.
