Fitting in Dublin

What's a good place to get a fitting done in Dublin? And is there a rough ballpark of cost?

I've picked up cycling since Christmas and now that i'm getting into longer rides, I'm getting some lateral knee pain after about 60k. (I'm usually tackling quite a bit of climbing so even with high cadence I'm having to push fairly hard)

I'm hoping a professional fit will help, as well as get me in a good position overall since I've just been guestimating up until now.

Made an appointment myself for Wednesday next. He seems on the ball. I also am having knee probs with new bike which I never had before.

P.s. he's southside of Bray, Kilmacanogue

Had a bike fitting a while back with Aidan. Really nice guy. Really experienced and helpful.

That chap is 120 euros for a fitting, is that a standard price? I was hoping it would be a little cheaper but if that's the cost, so be it.

Are there any other places in Dublin available or is it a fairly niche service?

There are cheaper places but I think you run the risk that your fit will be done by "bike shop guy that knows how to work the bike fit machine". The guy in Kilmacanague is a qualified physical therapist and chances are whatever your issues might be he's seen them before.

I think €120 is expensive as well but if it makes you even a little bit more comfortable, multiplied by number of hours on the bike, that works out pretty cheap. Maybe you'll get the same benefit from a bike bike for €70, I can't tell you. CycleSuperStore in Tallaght does a fit for that price, which is free if you buy a bike from them. If I was buying a bike there I'd certainly go for it.

I got a fit from Aidan recently so here's a quick review of what he does. First part is testing your strength and flexibility while asking your about what sort of cycling you do and what your issues are. Then he attaches crash test dummy style markers to you and puts you on your own bike on rollers to see how you get on. There's a few iterations of getting on and off while he adjusts things. In my case he raised the saddle a lot, flipped my stem, tilted my bars back and adjusted one of my cleats. He was able to show before and after videos where the software drew lines between the markers so I could see the angles my legs moved through and how far my back was bent. I went with a specific issue which seems to have disappeared so I think it was money well spent. Whether I'd have gotten the same benefit from a €70 fit in Cycle Super Store I can't tell you.

My bikefitting with Aidan was as part of a club so it worked out considerably cheaper. As for the bikefit, I am really glad I had it done. I had been cycling 'seriously' for 10 years and thought my own adjustments were as good as it would get, how wrong I was. Putting my saddle 1cm higher and flipping my stem (from up to down) surprised me but it makes such a difference. I feel much better on the bike (I did the fit on a new bike but when I adjusted my old bike to the new measurements, it felt like a new bike!).

So, if you could organise for him to do it for a group or club, that's the way to go.

Like Hivemindxx, I haven't had any other fit done so I can't compare. My only regret is that I didn't have it done years earlier.

I too went to Aidan. Without doubt the best money I've spent. He really knows his profession and spent a half hour with me(measuring and checking core etc ) before even touching the bike
I had a bike fit on a previous bike about 2 years ago and it didn't come near this.

    I'd recommend him.

Funny enough (or maybe not) this is where I bought my new bike and had the measurements for the fit done there on the machine and as a result ended up with dreadful knee pains, hence my visit to Aidan.
I was gonna visit my local physio but from experience I know it would take 2/3 visits for treatments and even after resolution I'd still be left with an incorrectly set up bike so tis a false economy really.[/QUOTE]

    Apologies, can't do quotes yet.
