Mount Wolseley Hotel and Golf Resort, which owes various banks €60m, has asked the High Court for protection from its creditors long enough to put a rescue plan in place and save up to 175 jobs.

Just read this on the RTE news app. Sad to see yet another fine course in trouble. It would be a big blow to the local economy for this place to go under.

This seems to be a common trend among the bigger golf courses in Ireland. There are far too many Golf courses in Ireland for the population

Class track. 3rd can be a beast of a hole. Was in great nick when we played a few weeks back. Enjoy

Hope the staff manage to get sorted always very friendly any time we've visited.

Have to agree there about the staff. They are really friendly and welcoming every time I play there.

There seems to be a common theme running lately, u had heard that the banks were being pressurised by the govt realise bad debts in 2014 so guessed this was coming. Can't see how they got into €60m debt though, that just seems madness. How old is the course?

Possibly wrong thread to ask but we have a deposit paid on one of their self catering cottages for July. Should that still be ok?

They developed a lot of property on the site during the Celtic tiger. There has also been a lot if development on the hotel too. They built a driving range and golf academy a couple of years back too. So I suppose all this adds up. It's a very well maintained place too and that comes at a large cost too.

I'm a member there, the course is in great condition. Bear in mind the greens were hollow tined and sanded a couple of weeks ago so they are not in there usual shape. Getting better every day. They have really minded the place over the winter. Enjoy the round

Looking forward to it now. It's that time of the year when the greens have to be done and nothing can be done about it, hopefully they be in decent enough condition on Wednesday morning.
