    Hi,

Does anyone know how to disable the wifi broadcast on the upc horizon box. my modem controls my network and the horizon box is connected to it. i can view the ip address of the box and log onto it but it wont let me disable the wifi radio because the box is connected to my wifi. if i disconnect it all together it creates its own blank network and I cant connect to that either. its driving me crazy has anyone disabled the wifi broadcast?

    Thanks.

I have the same issue. I cannot find a solution.
The WiFi modem is upstairs and the Horizon box downstairs.
The Horizon box transmitting it's own SSID means that my WiFi coverage downstairs is next to useless.
If I change the channel on my modem the Horizon box follows it.
    Driving me mad!

There has to be a way. Its totally strange how it won't let me disable the WiFi broadcast when its connected to WiFi as its not even broadcasting the same ssid or network. I sent UPC a message earlier but have yet to hear anything back.

No I opted out. Didn't like the idea really.

I tried too but I'm having issues getting it disabled. See this:

That is strange, maybe opting out doesn't actually do anything. I don't have this issue either way because my UPC modem is in bridge mode and I use my own routers to control my network.

I stuck mine in bridge mode too but I'm still seeing this

I've been in touch with UPC here via PM and they tell me today that the issue is with their engineers who are working on a permanent solution and should have an update early next week!

My concern here is that for this system to work successfully, UPC need users to opt in, so I would not like to think the misleading ability for the user to opt out is in some way intentional? appearing to work when you check your account but is actually staying live on your router. I don't think they'd be that brazened though, we will see what they come back with.

Supposedly to disable the wifi broadcast on the box, you must first create its own home network on the box. once this is done you go to settings, Home network, WiFi settings and select access point as off. this means the box cant connect to your home network at all without broadcasting another network. Really don't understand why we cant just turn the radio broadcast off without havng to disconnected the box from wifi all together. I haven't tried these steps as I am not at home.

Well so far things with UPC aren't what they seem to be at all. This upgrade has been a big ordeal for me. I haven't seen that broadcast from my router at all but like I said I will check when I get home. hopefully this isn't another promise that doesn't happen as I have had a few of them from UPC Already!

I have tried that and it doesn't work.
The only two states I can get my Horizon box to be in are:
    1. Set as an AP - Broadcasting it's own SSID
    2. Set as a client - connecting to my router and also broadcasting it's own SSID on the same channel.

I cannot get it to stop broadcasting an SSID.

That is what I was told by the UPC Reps on boards here. send them a PM and see what they tell you. I cant check my box until 6pm today so i cant say if it works or not. from what you're saying it doesn't, which again we are being mislead from UPC if true.

Also have you tried setting the box to create its own home network, then connect a laptop to the box with ethernet and connecting to its ip address? I read in a manual you can do that but didnt have a laptop around. When its connected to my network i can see the device and login but it wont let me switch off the radio broadcast because its connected to my wifi..

Maybe I am missing something, but please help me understand.

Why should I consider disabling the WIFI broadcast?

    Thanks.

Because we are using a separate WiFi modem.
The Horizon box continues to broadcast its own SSID even when set as a client, interfering with other network.

In general the whole idea is a good one in principle. I wouldn't have an issue with it as it's limited to (5 connections I think) at any one time and it is a separate radio broadcast to your own home network. When I enabled it originally, nothing happened and then I read on their site that it was only available in Limerick for now. Because of that I decided to disable it in my account until it became available in my area. That was not the case though, it actually was available in my area and was activated in my account. I disabled it in my account and discovered that it was not actually being turned off on my router and that's what I have issue with now. If I have no control over it, I don't want it.

Bare in mind too, I'm not using the Horizon box like the other posters, I'm on the Cisco EPC3925 Router.

Depends if you mean the horizon broadcast or wi-free one. as it was said I'm using a separate router for my network and not the horizon box. the box is sending out a dummy signal that isn't connected to a network and is degrading my actual networks wifi. that is why i want to disable it.

if you mean wi-free, its up to you. wi-free creates a separate channel for other upc users to connect to your modem when roaming. I dont agree to the idea of letting others piggyback onto my connect so I disabled.

Also the method for creating a home network on the horizon box and disabling the access point works as I did it and now i dont have a random useless ssid broadcast. I also dont have any wi-free broadcast at all and it doesnt show up on my epc3925.
