UK couple, aged 12 and 13, welcome their first child

A British couple, 12 and 13, had a baby last weekend and have officially become the UK's youngest ever parents.
A man claiming to be the father of a 12-year-old girl today revealed he was 'proud' of her and there was 'no shame' after she gave birth to her 13-year-old boyfriend's baby - making them Britain's youngest parents.

The unidentified girl had a daughter last weekend after conceiving when still at primary school. She was 11 then, and is now in Year 7 at school, while her boyfriend is in Year 9 at another school.

Today, her 'father' said that he would stand by his daughter - but admitted that he 'broke down with emotion' when discovering only four weeks ago that his eldest daughter was about to give birth.

The pair have the lowest combined age of any British parents on record. She, at 12 years and three months, is five months younger than Britain’s previous youngest mother, Tressa Middleton.

Their child weighed 7lbs - close to the UK average for a girl of 7lb 4oz, The Sun reported. At 27, the girl's mother, who was a teenage mother herself, is also now one of Britain's youngest grandmothers.

The parents, from North London, have been in a relationship for a year and say they are 'totally in love'. They met over Christmas 2012 in a park when she was ten and he was 12, it was reported.

Wow! Conceiving a child whilst still in primary school! I just hope for the child's sake the baby grows healthy and happily. They say there 'very much in love' but can you ever be sure at the age of 12?

Imagine the picture of the child's first day in school.

The whole family standing there in uniforms, waiting for the bus.

They are both below the age of consent. As bad as this is, it isn't statutory rape.

Just another reason to why I want to be a mammy to puppies and kittens. You can get them neutered at least.

The thread title is a bit odd. 12 & 13 year olds, are a couple?

Being known as a couple at that age.

It sounds weird. And too much responsibility.

They've apparently since she was 10,

    Imagine facebook status

    Turned 10 today

    Relationship with an other

    Turned 11 today

    First baby scan

Also part of the problem is that kids are expected to remain kids for much longer than in the past when 15 and 16 yr olds working and having kids was not uncommon but they probably got married very quickly after the facts became known.

Now our children don't get a full time job until their mid 20's and don't get married until their early 30's if they want to play "by the book".

Many people are increasing not "playing by the book" and are letting things happen in an unorganised fashion due to lack of proper life skills training.

Could the parents not have had the sense to get the child a termination? Stories like this one just make me despair for humanity.

I was playing Super Mario at 10 (and still am). Far from boyfriends and babies I was thinking of. And its still the same today!!

it is not the babies fault that they are bad parents. maybe put the child up for adoption since the adults involved are so irresponsible.

Its also a question if the child would agree to an abortion. Parents tend to get their way when it comes to disciplining a child but there is no way they could tell her or force her to get an abortion.

Didn't the father say he only found out 4 weeks before it was born?

    Couldn't terminate then!

It's amazing to think this would have been normal in pre agricultural society.

Grandparents generally play a big role in that these days anyway. This is a non-story really. Does it really shock anyone that pubescent kids are experimenting a lot more with sex these days?

It's kind of mental that so many fools demand that the babby be taken from her right away, while themselves being in no fit state to raise the kids they have.. and that's just going by what's said on flipping Twitter!

I think you're missing the point. Let's not derail the thread with a pro life versus pro choice argument, it never ends well.

im for taking away the child im 24 and in a far better position than a 12 year old to look after it. it shouldnt even be an option for it to stay with the "parents".

In Ireland, the father would automatically be considered a rapist, and the mother an innocent victim.

The article in the OP states that the under-18 conception rate (in the UK) "remains the lowest since 1969".

A young fella down the road from me got a girl pregnant years ago causing my mother to come out with this memorable statement....

    He was 17!!! :-D

Imagine if the granny has another kid at 40+. The baby uncle or aunt would be younger than their niece/nephew. Thats too weird.

Taking children away from young mothers and forcing them into adoption. Yes, that worked our really well before didn't it?

God help all of them, but forced adoption is a sick concept.

To think there was talk of lowering the voting age recently. Imagine, the election posters would start to look like cartoons with slogans like "free sweets for all if you vote me no.1"

    I despair.

its not just a "young mother" its a 12 year old child! her parents couldnt look after her properly what makes you think this child should be left with them??

Plus if the new child had a baby at 12 and then that child had a baby at 12 we could have a great great granny at 51.

I could go on but any more greats added scares me!
