    Hey everyone

Going form shannon to miami via new york in August of this year (honeymoon, yippee!!)

Flight is on 9am the morning after the after party so was wondering what time i would need to be in shannon to do the clearance with US customs etc.

I ALWAYS gets stopped by immigration in US east coast when i fly there as i have the same name as someone who they dont like :-). I usually have to go into some room for an hour or so while they make sure i am not that guy :-)

will this happen in SHannon also ?

3 hours recommended. I know it won't be easy but if that's what it takes to get on your honeymoon then surely it's worth it.

Can't predict what immigration will do, there's always a chance of being stopped

2 hours seems a little tight, especially with US customs

2 hours would be plenty of time in SNN

Sorry but that's ridiculous. Security in Dublin can take up to 50 minutes, and I've queued for 45 minutes and longer for US immigration in T2.

Nobody is forcing anyone to shop and there's next to nothing to buy after you've pre-cleared anyway, almost all the shops are in the concourse areas. Yes waiting around after you've cleared if you've got through on a rare quiet moment is boring as hell....BUT..I'd rather sit and read/listen to music/think/whatever for an hour than stress in every queue and potentially miss my flight.

Particularly when the OP has a history of immigration issues...3 hours is what I'd advise...and yes I have flown TA from Shannon

in 2010 i arrived at the check in desk at 8.15am for a 9.00am flight to newark in shannon and made it comfortably.

2 weeks ago i arrived about 10.30am for a 12.15pm new york flight from shannon and had was waiting around for quite a while.

check in, security and immigration in shannon are a breeze and the distance from the front door to the boarding gate is a fraction of dublin, its a much longer walk from the plane to passport control in dublin....

How early do you go to the preclearance at the Dublin airport?

Our flight leaves at almost 1pm so will it be packed then?

You will be told at check in but probably 2 hours before your flight. So you need to allow time to check in and go through security too before that. 3 hours really is advisable for the whole lot

I watched this video and the man said that over 90% of the passengers are in and out in 30 minutes..

We will just go when it pops up on the board. Obviously we aren't going to go an hour before... but we aren't going to go in there super early either because I heard they have no food.

The DAA quote 3 hours so you have plenty of time to drop a few quid in their shops.

There are no shops bar a tiny newsagent after immigration

the busiest time of the day in dublin airport is 6am to 9am. compared to that time period 1pm is quiet.

having said that you need to be in dublin airport at least 2 hours before a transatlantic flight. dublin is the exact opposite of shannon. queues at check in, security and immigration can be and usually are long and the walk between all three is long.

At least we won't be sitting there. I hate arriving at the airport and just sitting there for hours bored..

Plenty of shopping between check in and US immigration. That is where the DAA want you to waste some time and money.

Yes but immigration queues are the difference between making your flight and missing it.

I beg to differ. That may be your experience but not mine. Usually averages 50 minutes-an hour but longest I queued was 1 hour 40 minutes.

    Still not 3 hours.

That time is immigration alone. Check in can take close to an hour and then there's security.

It's the extra screening for US flights that takes the time before you get to the desk. Doesn't happen for other destinations

Heading from Dublin next Thursday to Newark on the united flight at 9:00am. Staying in hotel nearby and plan to be at airport at 5:30am so have time to get a bit of breakfast between check in and pre-clearance. I assume that is enough time?

Plenty. Fair play for being so organised

It's plenty of time, yes. I did this flight last week and it is very busy so good to give yourself a few hours.

Obviously people are going to be organised.

No one wants to miss an expensive flight to America!!

Plenty of posts on this board from people who don't take the recommended check in time seriously ;)

Well that's good cheers.....would pro have left it till 6 but factoring in a quick breakfast so need to add time for that. I can't understand people showing up an hour before flights etc....I know a lad who showed up a day early for his flight, read the date wrong.....now that's being at the airport on time to the extreme :)
