So DCC have called me to say the Iveagh Trust have some places available for social housing and they are going to arrange an interview for me asap. Does anyone know much about what happens next? Will I be up against other tenants? If they choose me does the process be long? Has anyone / do you know of anyone who has dealt with the iveagh trust before as I have never heard of them up until now. No bashing please just looking for some advice, thanks.

Thank you, I have read this piece, but I am looking for some personal advice from people who have gone through this process personally. Id like to know is it worth coming off DCC list? If so is the process long to actually get the keys? What does the interview consist of? If I am put forward to the Iveagh Trust from DCC am I likely to get a place? DCC haven't really told me much and I can't stop thinking about it all,my mind is on overdrive :-)

How long are you on the waiting list with DCC? If it's less than 3 or 4 years then I would definetly consider it

A friend of mine on the housing list was offered and took an apartment run by a trust. She didn't realise that once she took it she would be unable to transfer to a local authority property in the future so you should check on that. Best of luck.

Thank you both for your replies. Im on DCC list since 2008, so 6 years now. Im just unsure what to do, I know by accepting one from the Iveagh Trust I wouldn't be giving the option to purchase off the Iveagh Trust, but if I go with DCC I think they give you that option ar a later stage .Im just worried if I say no to the trust, DCC wont offer me anything else until my turn on their list, which is between 180th-300th. Do you know is that the only differences between local authorities and housing trusts? One you're given the option to buy at a later stage and one you can never buy? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I know all there is to know before accepting :)

The iveagh won't allow you to buy one of there properties but like the council or other your housed for life ,
I don't think any of the housing associations sell property to there tenants ,

Personally I'd take one if I was offered ,

I wouldn't be bothered with transfers or buying one ,

Keep saving and buy a property in the future

Thats what I was thinking, that if we take it that we could possibly save for our own eventually. It would help us an awful lot. I sound so ungrateful, but I am far from ungrateful, I just know of people that were on RAS who signed up for it, got taken off the council list and after 5 years the landlord wanted to sell up, leaving them homeless and at the bottom of the council list again. I think though I may accept it, if it is offered. Im running miles ahead of myself here as I only got a call to say I was nominated by DCC and that they will pass on my details to the Iveagh Trust, so I may not even get it, I am just asking all this just to be sure I fully understand before I commit 100%

If you even interview with the trust will you be taken off the list? If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a house from them, you still hold your place? If so, grab it with both hands.

    That wouldn't happen.
If the Landlord didn't want to renew the lease, the Council would have to rehome you.

As far as I am aware, I dont get taken off the list until I accept one of their properties. I hope.. :)

As far as I know, (its a friend of a friend) they were made to privately rent and receive rent supplement, leaving them back to square one, unable to work, bottom of the council list and having to rely on rent supplement to help with their rent.

Not with SDCC. I know; I was about to go onto RAS and was well informed beforehand.

Yes see she was with DCC so I don't know if there is a difference there.

Still no word back from Iveagh Trust, DCC said they nominated us and all they can do is pass on our details to the Iveagh Trust, and wait for them to call us back. I feel sick with nerves since DCC called which was last week. I just dont know what happens after we get nominated...
