The difference between winter and summer tyres

OK, just thought I'd post this little story.
As some of you know I moved last year to southern poland in the mountains. So after a fairly mild winter we have had a very dry warm spell. So like everyone else changed back to my summer tyres.....
Yesterday the snow came back and today I had to drive over the mountains (road rises to just on 1000m).
During the winter this road was no problem with winter tyres, but today I just couldn't do it. Half way up my climb on came the traction control light and I started slowing down.
Started to panic as I came to a standstill and then started slipping back down (handbrake is front wheels). Luckily the cars behind had same problem and had already started to reverse down.
Nervously I selected reverse and slowly went back for nearly 2kms.
So today I found out that winters really do just what they are meant to do!
