Electronic handbrake is stuck on 2005 ( new model ) Passat. Is there any way of freeing brake in order to get the car to a garage and am I best to go to a main dealer? I am in Sligo . Thanks

    Hi,

This happened to me a few months ago.

One of the Park brake motors stuck on.

The brake button was flashing and a beeping sound.

I needed road side assist to have this released.

If you are in the same position the below may be useful

In order to do this he disconnected the positive terminal from the battery and connect it a number of times over about 30 seconds.

He then asked me to turn on the car and press the park brake button.

The park brake motor disengaged and i was able to dirve to the garage near by.

If it is a park motor issue to have it fixed was around 350 / 400 to replace. Your problem may not be the same.

No Problem OP, If that does not work, hopefully you ahve breakdown assist on the insurance policy and it should only take them a few minutes to diagnose the problem.

    Best of Luck.

Is there no manual release on those? On the Scenic theres a handle in the boot to release the handbrake for servicing, changing pads etc.

I had the problem on a 2005 A6. One of the wires going to the rear brakes had broken. Reconnected and was fine.

    .

That is very clever to have the manual release... pity VW did not know about it.

Had to get the car taken by recovery truck. I do not know if FBD insurance covers that
