No heard from recruitment agency

Hi, I applied for a job I was interested in 10 days ago. I rang the employer first and everything sounded positive, they sent me out an application form which I returned to them.

I'm worried I haven't heard from them yet 10 days, even to acknowledge that they received my application. Is this normal or am I being silly??

That would be pretty normal. At this stage you may still hear from them but you may not get any response what so ever.

Call them and ask if they received your application. Its good to be proactive and appear interested in the position.

Would it be a bit forward to ring or e-mail them? It's a Healthcare agency, I had to send two postal orders with my application so I'd imagine they have to at least offer me an interview.

What were the postal orders for? Agencies in Ireland can't charge you.
Unless they are charging for background checks? Not sure what the legal position on that would be. You say in your opening post that you spoke to the employer, was it the employer or the agency?

I wouldn't have thought it forward at all if anything it shows an genuine interest in the position.

As above^^ what were the postal orders for?? It sounds a bit suspect sending a recruitment agency money, are you sure they're legit?

A recruitment agency isn't obliged to offer you anything and I'm sure cv's only get a fleeting glance.

They're paid by an employer when they fill a position advertised you shouldn't be paying them anything unless they've offered you some cv write up service.

    Hi risteard7
How much were the postal orders for?
And what were the in respect of?

It's a Healthcare agency that have the contract for the HSE. So you're on call, basically it's pay as you work there are no entitlements. One postal order was for Garda vetting and the other for a medical to ensure you're fit for work.

If I don't hear anything by Tuesday I'll contact them. Thanks for the replies.

Yea they are definitely a legit company I didn't get scammed or anything. They may wait for the garda vetting check before they process an application as its important.

No just to see that they received everything

OK, but I'm decidedly "iffy" about agency fees and the like, especially if there are no guarantees.

So have you had the medical? I also wonder why you had to pay for one rather than going to your own GP to have him sign their form that you were fit for.

I'm just very skeptical it comes with old age I guess.

I hope you get on OK, and I didn't mean to pi$$ on your chips.

OP another thought just came to me.

I would ask for copies of the Garda vetting and the medical report. It makes sure they have obtained them. The other thing is that they are reports on you, so it is perfectly reasonable to request them. The medical report mighty need some further treatment or investigation - I'm not wishing it on you just speculating. The CRM check may be inaccurate and need challenging.

    I wish you well.

OP, I work in the healthcare area too, so between paid jobs and volunteering I've filled out about 10 Garda vetting forms.
I've never had to pay for one, and find it a bit odd that an agency would want money for completing one? It's just a form sent to the Garda Vetting Unit, but there are no costs associated with it, bar the stamp to send it.
I'd confirm with them what the postal order was for, because that a little odd to me.

Ok I didn't know the Garda vetting had no fee involved! So where are they getting the €15 from? When I ring them I'll be asking them questions.

I definitely would! Just seems really odd to me that they would be looking for any money at all, especially for something which definitely doesn't cost money!
