I'm 4 months in my current job and have came to the realisation my boss is stone mad,he walks around talking and laughing to himself, disappears out of nowhere and turns back up a few days later, now as far as bosses go ive worked for far far worse, never have any hassle getting paid and hes fair and a good laugh! The closest way I can describe him is this you tube clip

So ah what's your boss like to work for?

Working as PE teacher, my boss has a kind of hierarchy in terms of job importance that is discriminating and demeaning.

There's the "proper" teachers at the top of the food chain and then there's us PE and resource teachers below.

God it's so annoying. He treats us like dinner ladies.

But your job is a doddle and you're paid just as much as them so it's a small price to pay.

Mine often walks around the place singing "I believe I can fly" at the top of his voice :) Legend.

He's not to bad. Can be hard to judge what mood he is in at times.

I guess that comes from being in the line of work we are in.

He is a nice guy. Quiet, and a bit too conflict-averse at times. But he's incredibly hard-working and takes good care of his staff.

Those who can’t do, teach. And those who can’t teach, teach PE.

Pretty sound - we're more like friends most of the time. When hes in a bad mood though, we all need to just avoid him but its pretty rare.

Great for parties, gifts, impromptu long lunches etc & to be fair, always helps any of us if we need anything. I'd say I'm pretty lucky really.

I'd have to fly 11hrs to see him face to face. Report to no one in the country or region I work in.

Not sure how I could improve on this set up!

Grand, he's pretty hands off and based in another country. I see him a couple of times a month on average, speak to him once a week on average.

My last boss was a raving alcoholic, but fierce sound. Unreliable lol, but quite forgiving of my own faults too. He would look at me with a sort of bemused head on him, when I'd go on a rant about how I couldn't work in these conditions (i.e., where he'd leave me dealing with clients when I was completely in the dark as to what he had already told them). I became quite expert at saying something and nothing, in order to avoid hanging either of us.

My boss is a very strange man. Personally we have 2 very different personalities and interests, real chalk and cheese people. When i first started I could see he was a bully at heart. Always was and always will be, the type of lad you just knew snuck up on the quiet kids and punched them until they either fought back or cried, the type who shoved his way through others to get what he wants, a trait he maintains, and as our company loves bullies who are good workers, he was only ever going to be a supervisor.

The first 2 years I had a number of clashes with him as we worked each other out- he trying to walk all over me, me snapping at him every now and then and telling him to back off, I think he even enjoyed his little sad battles with people he just didnt like. He was very PC though and always tried to bully you under the guise of "following company procedure". Eventually I just gave up on him and stopped trying to stick out or win a battle. Life is just too short so now I just do the work and collect the money and he has given up on me too. No banter, zero small talk and just one or two emails a day for contact (he talks to the other workers under him).

Whats sad is that he still tries to provoke or get a reaction from new employees who join the office. You know the way they say people change? He hasnt changed a jot from the day I set eyes on him to now.

A very poor manager. Does not treat her staff all equally. The lick arse always gets places. We're very different people. I find her aggressive & moody.

hes a strange one but also a pretty down to earth guy

My immediate boss is great. He has promoted very quickly, because of both his intellect and some quick thinking actions. He has a great rep for looking after those who are under him. God help you if you've been caught bullying one of his lads - you are getting knocked out. His banter is quick, and he takes the piss out of himself as much as anyone else. Legend

Just an observation, but women bosses don't seem to get too many compliments on threads like this. My boss is a women and she is dead on, actually never had trouble with a female boss or manager.

Everyone seems to be very lucky with a fairly nice boss! I wish I could say the same but mine is an ignorant pig. I can't talk to him about any concerns I have, he gets extremely defensive and just response with "there's the door if your not happy".

Ha ha.... no, some people in work reckon she lives with another woman, maybe she is, doesn't talk about her personal life alot but then who cares, she's a good boss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,921 ✭✭✭2 stroke

I've a fantastic boss. I can phone up and say "I had too much to drink last night and I'm not fit for work" and she says "We're all entitled to do that every now and then, see how you feel in the afternoon" or I'll be really stuck without you today, I'll send someone to collect you after elevenses.
