Wiring an apartment - probably a stupid question

Ok so as you might have seen from the other threads I've started I'm currently looking at buying a property. I'm not in anyway familiar with construction etc... and have what's probably a very stupid question...

There is no wired network in the apartment I'm looking at buying at present. I'd like to be able to create a wired network - would it be difficult to run cable around the apartment?

Would it be a case of chasing the walls in the apartment? Could the wiring be run behind the skirting boards?

How difficult is it to chase a wall?

I know powerline adapters might be an option or even repeaters but I'm looking to get a home automation system which will require running cable and would also like to wire a Sonos system to minimise dropouts.

You can get plastic skirting boards which have space behind them for cables,and then if needed slim line trunking on the wall surface

Tbh m8 I haven't used it,yet,but its one solution

You could in theory take off the existing skirting and check to see if there is a gap behind it,depending on wall type the battens might not go all the way down to the floor
