I was informed last week that the banks have moved in and seized all assets of the Crowe family since last monday. I have no link or article for this but it is 100% fact.
Anyway business resumes as normal there but i have been informed by some staff members that there are massive changes coming in the way they operate.
Hopefully the Hotel, Golf and Leisure club stays running as normal anyway as it is probably the best and my favorite course in Tipperary and would be a shame were it to close.

Both Ballykisteen and Dundrum in receivership now, there isn't the golfing population in the area to support three clubs in a 10km radius.
It's difficult to see how Ballykisteen, Tipperary and Dundrum will all continue to operate.

I'm surprised at Dundrum. Anytime I visited there, it seemed like a great cash business. Weddings morning, noon & night and discos, etc at the weekend.

    Really liked the course, too.

Was it management or did the market disappear?

I would say moycullen that it was still running as if we were still in the Celtic Tiger era. Poor Management decisions would be at the helm of the problem i would say.

I heard a figure of €40m in debt but that is pure speculation and tbh i wouldnt really believe it.

Sad to hear that kiers47. It is easily the best course in Tipp in my view and hopefully things will work out ok. Things have continued as normal in Ballykisteen since the receivership anyway. Keep us updated on developments.

I am sad to hear that, I stayed there for a long weekend a few years ago, its a great place, a world away from these souless hotels with no history. The staff were great and the kids loved the place.

On the downside the layout was atrocious for a modern hotel, loads of wasted space with stairways all over the place, yadda yadda yadda. If you had the building as an empty square you could do great things with it, but that would destry the character of the place.

I watched the golfers tee off from the front of the hotel - unusually the golf is very much out in front of the hotel - as opposed to hidden round the back.

Good luck to the staff and owners for the future.

I heard that it was in receivership for just one day and was sold to a crowd that owns two other hotels.

Can't understand the "love" for Dundrum. It really is a mediocrity. The first couple of holes are very poor and when you cross the road to the three that come next, they are like a glorified P&P. I have played it three times, there will not be a fourth. The clubhouse is also very poor. One evening we were sitting in it after gold a a céilidh started! Loads of oul ones jigging about, just like that section that used to be in the Muppet Show!

I have just read through all of your posts on the golf forum and you are the most negative poster i have ever come across. You don't have a nice thing to say about anyone or anything...

do you have even one positive bone in your body ?

I have been there on several occasions and its the craic in the bar late on along with the opportunity to gatecrash a wedding that makes our weekend .... the course is fine and as a venue, we had no complaints (hence we always went back).

So I suppose its really down to personal choice, we go away to enjoy a game of golf, meet other people, have fun and basically get away from the usual weekend routine. To each his own.

It's not. I know it's an opinion but, really, Dundrum is at least much better than average (and hence not a mediocrity). Also, it is some test off the blues.

What an inane and idiotic observation. I have not started this thread but merely commented on it. I call it as I see it. If I do not like a golf course I'll say so and will try to back up my claim as I have done here. Surely the whole point of an open forum is to get as many views as possible?

I would be fairly certain that this is not the case Tom. The recievers that were appointed are also running other hotels from what i know so maybe what you heard was lost in translation.
    Where did you hear it?

There is a court case this week i believe so if i here anything i will post it.

I have done you a disservice and I apologise,

You used to be a really nice guy and I reference these two posts where you didn't say something negative....
Titleist have a great deal at the moment. 3 dozen ProV1's , with your name personalised on them for €100. Still the best ball in golf
I did not mention clubs and am slightly doubtful on the efficacy and effectiveness of clubs. I remember Phil Mickleson remarking that Tiger Woods had to be the best golfer in the world because no-one else could play with rubbish clubs made by Nike! That said, there is a certain amount of truth in your observation. It takes a good golfer to play with blades. Cavity-backs are more forgiving.

But sometime a month ago, you had a change of heart and hit us with this
Unless you are playing off 10 or less you are wasting money playing with ProV1's
Bradshaw did not lose because of "luck", he lost because he didn't know the rules.
The only one on that list that I've played is Rush at No.4 and that wasn't hectic. Doesn't say much for the rest of them
The views from the clubhouse perched on high should be breathtaking but are horrendous. Must have one of the ugliest vistas from any clubhouse in the country
That was more or less my point. Most higher handicap golfers are poor round the greens, that's why they are high handicappers, and as such good balls are a waste of money. Most of them just want length of the tee.
This is not an unusual occurrence where I play. If you ever want to find me on a golf course look for the group behind the group that has lost 3 holes. These people would sell their children before calling people through.
On one occasion I was behind a President and former Captain
    Dreadful golf hole
I play off 9 myself and though I usually play well on it and enjoy it, I cannot see what a 15+ handicap golfer can get out of it, never mind a 20+. It must represent a real slog expending a lot of effort for very little reward
Three friends of mine were down on St Patrick's Day and sais it was in terrible condition. Couldn't tell where the fairways ended and the rough began
Why would you ask about the tees in Naas? There is no difference. If you are not off the back pegs, don't bother
Driving ranges in this country are rubbish as a rule.

I was wrong, you are not negative all the time.

Now, let's get the conversation back to being about dundrum :)

Oh,it was definatly hearsay on my behalf and may not have been the case at all and as you say they may have thought that the multiple hotel minding receiver was a buyer.
Feel sorry for the Crowes who took it from a convent to what it is before we had golf courses everywhere.
The Dalata group have taken over, not sure if they are managing on behalf of the receivers or have bought it themselves

You are being selective. You did not copy my posts praising Palmerstown, The Heritage, Rathsallagh, the K Club (Palmer), or Royal County Down, but then that would defeat your purpose. This country has some of the best courses in the world and having played many of them I find it amusing when someone praises a course that I would not consider to be among the best. I am well aware that "one man's meat is ...." but that's the whole point isn't it? Share our experiences. I have no intention of lying to make people feel better.

Would just like to say for the record, i have played a very many golf courses in Ireland and would rate Dundrum very highly indeed - a true gem of a golf course imo and always been in superb condition whenever ive played it.
Sorry that the owners have gone as ive had some superb nights down there,
due to their great hospitality and friendly welcome.
Really hope that the course survives, as i would love to play it again!!
    Hows that for positivity

Agree that we are all entitled to opinions and each one sees a course differently,
but to call the par 3 6th at Dundrum , a glorified pitch and putt hole is ridiculous mate!! Have you ever played it to a left side pin position??

ps. you must play some quality pitch n putt courses, would love to know the locations??

The debt is €13.5 million. The cash business was the problem unfortunately as it was not looked after. Dalata Hotel group are gone in to run the business and prepare it for sale. It takes around six to ten months to complete this process. And then it will go on the market where it may go for 3 million. The property is in need of substantial investment to make it viable. Very little was invested over the last ten years by the owners. I also feel sorry for the small suppliers who serviced the business and now will be lucky to get 2 cents in the euro on what they are owed. So no winners in the long run.

Ya rock I've also heard that figure or well 14m as well, as 8 and 20 so I'm not sure.

Yes some local business are rightly shafted. They also had recently renovated the roof of the ballroom and were waiting on an insurance payout to pay said suppliers and contractors.
As well as staff being out of pocket for over 2 weeks.
Anyway I won't be disclosing what I know of those businesses here. But it is sad situations all around.

Dunno if this is the right thread but has anyone played this course recently? There was some damage done to a few fairways recently just wondering is it worth the trip?

They put roundup on the fairways instead of fertiliser.

I played it around 2 months ago and it wasn't great, worth giving them a call

I did today they said it was placing within one club length on some fairways. Don't know how good or bad it is though....

I played it about 3 weeks ago. They have sewn new grass into the fairways a couple of months back however it is pretty patchy. If you don't mind the fairways being patchy with little run on the 7 with problems then it's fine. The rest of the course is in decent shape.

Personally though I'd give it a miss for another while. Just my opinion though.
