SyFy aside, is the series any good? How hard is it?

Its good alright, not particularly hard though.

I only read the first novel - the second currently sits on my to-do pile - and generally enjoyed it. The pacing was relentless and it had an interesting enough take on humanity's colonisation of space; the characterisation and general world-building didn't feel particularly unique though, the whole Earth (and Mars) vs. the colonies plotline has been done to death, but like the action it was carried off with a good deal of brio.

It certainly has potential, but my chief concern is that SyFy has had more misses that hits with its original shows of late, and having finished something like Helix I fear they'll lowball the concept and won't have the conviction to make it work.

Its a pretty good series, but the bad guys seem to be bad guys because they are bad guys and want to do bad things.

Yes, but they have a rag-tag bunch of misfits to save the day!

I hope they don't try too hard with the politics and Firefly it up a bit.

Well the show has its first cast member; Thomas Jane will be playing Miller. Not exactly the kind of man I had pictured, but still a decent bit of casting.

hmm yeah not quiet how i pictured him either we will just have to wait and see. I wonder how they are going to make the tall, longer face hands and legs "belter" look

By completely ignoring it would be my guess.

They must have thought tall actors = belters, short actors = earthers was too obvious.

Or maybe Steven Seagal is interested in playing Holden.
