If you ever worked directly with clients then you would understand that 99% of all clients couldnt give a flying fu@k about the science and what is proper nutrition.

All they care about is whats in it for me (WI FM) and how do i get results fast.

Any decent trainer I have worked with knows that you still have to address total carb intake and at some point total calorie intake (typically this resolves itself when the client has addressed carb and wheat intake) even when you have cut back drastically or eliminated wheat/gluten containing foods.

Overall, you can go around in circles chasing your tail and getting over analytical about nutrition when the bigger issue can be the client lacks -

    1. Decent mobility

    2. Cant and wont work hard on basic compound movements

    3. Gets crushed by even the most modest metcon/conditioning work

Nutriution plays a larger role to the extent you are working on all of the above i.e. if you are very stiff, cant do the basics and have poor conditioning you are going to have to pay more attention to your nutrrition than someone who is a total beast in the gym and he/she cant just get enough calories in (i would still get them to stay off the wheat even if it was from a better digestion and anti inflammarory reason - check out the work of Dr Tom O'Bryan, Dr Pearlmutter, Dr William Davis etc or not if everything is working grand for you then cary on nothing to see here).

'Processed food' - weasel word extraordinaire!

Wikipedia offers the following list of food processing methods:

Removal of unwanted outer layers, such as potato peeling or the skinning of peaches.
Chopping or slicing e.g. diced carrots.
    Mincing and macerating
Liquefaction, such as to produce fruit juice
    Fermentation e.g. in beer breweries
    Emulsification
Cooking, such as boiling, broiling, frying, steaming or grilling
    Deep frying
    Baking
    Mixing
Addition of gas such as air entrainment for bread or gasification of soft drinks
    Proofing
    Spray drying
    Pasteurization
    Packaging

Best of luck avoiding 'processed foods'.

Everyone knows what someone means when they say "processed food".

Just like everyone knows what someone means when they say "toning".

Most people on the periphery of the industry are just too ****ing self righteous to allow "normal" people that concession tho.

But hey, who cares if you help. Once you're "right".

Fair enough, you got a job to do.....I don't know you so I'm not gonna question your methods.

But it pisses me off when everyone starts raving on about (insert latest fad) like it's the only proper way you should be doing things. These people need to wake up and stop being sheep to everything they hear. This fitness chit isn't rocket science, far from it actually.

That's why I get so vocal and a little bit of trolling for my amusement.

Anyhow this thread is gone is far around in circles it's now going backwards.

Sorry, didn't mean to respect "normal" people enough to give them the facts, I'll just join in on the condescension and tell them not to eat gluten. It's far easier than using fact and teaching people the truth. Do you mind if I hop up on that horse with you?

You probably wouldn't be able to reach it. It's very high.

I don't thinking it's going backwards actually because the average individual should be able to take a few things from this thread -

    1. Cut out wheat for 2 weeks, if you feel and look better as a result then great keep going, if not then put it back in

    2. If your idea of good nutrition is just eat lots of protein, keep it low fat and all carbs are bad then you need major help

    3. Get stronger - if you can't do the basics then your engine is so fu&king small you are ALWAYS going to look for the answer in nutrition when the real answer is my 40yr old plus female clients would put you to shame.

    4. You mobility probably needs massive work

    5. Lots of cardio is the most ass backward way to looking a feeling your best

    6. Sleep more, put down the ipad and phone and get to bed at a more reasonable time

    LOUD NOISES.

It's one thing if a 'fad' costs you money but nothing more than 'give knocking the big sources of gluten from your diet for a couple of weeks' has been suggested yet you would swear the OP had been advised to sell their first born for heroin.

Suggestions are made, the OP knows that not everything everyone suggests will work for them but might give some a try.

TBF I don't think the OP has been ITT since he started it.

I don't even think his thread was suppose be about gluten, but ya it's been amusing all the same.

Here's a simple fact you probably don't grasp.

The more choices you give somebody, the less likely they are to do something, and the more unhappy they are likely to be with the outcome.

Conditional responses, while "technically" correct doesn't actually improve someone's life.

And I'd rather be "wrong" and help.

    Than "right" and irrelevant.

I'm trying to decide if I should take gluten out of my diet, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

But if you want someone to lose or gain weight they will still need to watch their calories..(no matter what diet they're on, this is the only thing that works)

So switching somebody to a gluten free diet isn't going to help until they sort out their nutrition..

    Gluten free = Placebo.....nothing more.

You obviously can't grasp the definition of a fact.

So what do you think about being wrong and not helping anybody?

What you're doing is the equivalent of giving someone a fish rather than teaching them to fish.

Gluten free, low carb, low fat, no dairy, no eating after 6 all cut massive chunks out of most people's diets. Of course they are going to lose weight. I actually rather people giving this advice not knowing it's bull****, than people who know it's bull**** but still hand it out as advice, giving it more momentum.

By the way, I'd advise you to go easy spouting all that sense around the place, it's not a great way to make friends.

I think we just all need to turn the heating off in the house and just use light dumbbells for high reps.

Oh and kettlebells are freakin dangerous water bottle exercises ftw

Facts here we all have more in common regards nutrition and training than differences.

And yet I'd say at least 170 of the 200ish posts are about gluten.

    The mind boggles.

"Hey here's foods that will probably make you fat - don't eat them"

    Go fish.

Besides, you've no idea the training pages, videos and modules I've put together for my gym members explaining all this in depth. I just don't share it on boards because it would be a slap in the face to the people that pay me for it.

Does every suggestion to try something need a study now?

If you recommend a diet, then it obviously needs validation. Otherwise don't preach like it's fact. Hope that helps.

I think we need a study to determine that.
