I don't think ANYONE or any trainer is recommending 100% gluten free because we know no one is going to stay on that all the time.

I'm happy enough if my clients are off wheat 90% of the time and then get strong and be able to pass any of my Metcon tests

So it's not really a gluten free diet then it's a pick and choose diet, lol.

One last thing, if you have two similar trainees are you saying the one on the gluten free diet will pass your test faster than the 'wheat' eater? I hope not!

We're going nowhere with this and if you're like me, it could go on forever!

Look all I'm trying to say is....

A 100% gluten free diet for the average person that doesn't need it is bull-chit, maybe YOU are strict enough to cut it out completely (without knowing you I can't say for sure)

But the average person that jumps on this gluten free fad, will overtime start to miss egg with toast etc and instead of buying a loaf of bread (this is only a e.g.)
which won't do them one bit of harm will start replacing them with there gluten free counterparts which are usually packed with more sugar and fat to make up for the bland taste.

Or they will eat gluten free this but the sauce they mix it with will be laced with it, so IMO 100% gluten diet is a load of bull-chit unless you medically need it.

And when I said boring, I meant it must be pretty boring not heading for a coffee and a sambo, having a beer and pizza or just going for dinner every now and again because if you do any of these you are eating processed chit (gluten or gluten free)

I would just prefer to eat a balanced diet and watch my macro's, sure I eat loads of gluten free stuff, but do I avoid it like it's the plague, lol no.

But whatever works for you so we'll just have to agree to disagree..
    .
This is IMO just another fitness fad...(I spend a lot of time on bigger fitness forums and not so much on here anymore and it's laughable to me to see how much this is being pushed on here, but as per usual most people are like sheep here)

These are my opinions, you don't have to agree with them...

did you ever hear of the paleo diet? Plenty of people can do it.

    What a car crash.

Some people feel better avoiding gluten in large quantities, so they avoid it.
Others have no issue with it, so don't avoid it specifically.

Try each approach and see how you feel. Go with what ever you prefer.
I've no idea why it had to go any further than that?

Well if the evidence is true that gluten causes diseases such as Parkinsons and Alzeihmers then even if you feel fine consuming gluten you could be silently damaging your body.

No its not a pick or choose its a realistic expecation when you work with normal folk.

and no there are many factors that go into getting people to perform at a higher level and staying off wheat 90% of the time is just one of them however its not a massive factor.

do what you want mate but you are NOT my audience.

Because people are making shit up and then presenting it as fact and recommending that other people do what they say based on the stuff they made up.

I would argue that staying off wheat would give one zero improvements in performance over a wheat eater...But thats for another day.

Anyhow as you said it's not me you're trying to convince so I'll finish it there, enjoy your day.

Calm down. Just because a statement isn't back by a peer-reviewed study, doesn't mean they are "making it up". Anecdotal evidence has its place as long as its clear thats exactly what it is (which everyone has done in this thread).

Oh, anecdotal evidence has a place alright...

People lay off the buns, they get a bit fitter. The conclusion is that it was the gluten.

I suppose it's better than when people were saying that there was bad yeast in your gut which feeds on sugar, so cutting out the sugar would kill off the yeast, which would make you fitter. (I can't remember if that one was ever big on here though.)

Found this post from Mark at Mark's Daily Apple about the so called gluten free "fad".

    http://www.marksdailyapple.com/gluten-free-fad/#axzz2XEx40HEl

The evidence against gluten is undeniable.

I think these posts from Mark's Daily Apple sum up the gluten and grain issue quite well.

The auld wheat \ gluten merry go round cause another endless tread.

There have been countless cases of people posting in other treads about how they benifited in many ways by giving up wheat.

Some of the best PT's here have seen many clients benifit from giving up wheat.

Only thing left for the doubters is to try it for the themselves.

And stench blossom pic's or it ain't true :pac::pac::pac:

And there's been millions and millions of cases where people do just as good with wheat.

And some of the best nutritionists in the WORLD claim it's a load of bollix, I'd prefer to listen to them rather than a couple of gym rats.

You should have just let this thread die...

My take on it is this:

A lot of people would have a slice of toast or a sandwich as quick 'snack' between meals.

Most people also eat portions of rice/cereal/pasta which are far too big.

By being told to cut out gluten, you eliminate these issues. So you end up eating far less carby foods, hunger levels go down, you've to replace those carbs with something which hopefully is proteins & fats.

Whether medically it does or does not help (I personally feel less bloated when not eating bread), it helps with overall calorie control and satiety levels.

Muscly - combination of BW training and key lifts - DL and Squat

    Lean - Intermittant fasting.

    The first honest answer ITT..

But I will say that most of the people that you talk about are also the ones that know sweet F all about proper nutrition in the first place and will most likely be the ones that end up replacing their bread etc with the gluten free counterparts..

So in the end they won't be much better off, apart from feeling a little less bloated! Placebo - who knows.

As much as supplements and all these new fads in the fitness industry the only thing they truly do is take more money off the average Joe that doesn't know any better.
