    Hi folks,

My burner seems to be running intermittently lately. Basically the rads are heating normally and I only noticed when I had to go to the boiler house.

The burner runs ok, but keeps cutting out and immediately restarting and then working for another minute or two. It sounds normal when running. I assume there is an issue and it will pack in totally at some stage.

    Any ideas appreciated, thanks

A good service is needed. Money well spent if you get somebody good with a flue gas analyzer.
A cheap or bad service is a waste of money & fuel.
What area do you live in ?
    Maybe somebody here can help.
    Up to you.

    Sounds like faulty solenoid valve
They get hot when working and the cooper coil might have a crack in it so it's breaks down for a second for two and starts again
    Just a guess

could be any number of issues but a good service engineer should be able to sort it for you without too much bother

Had one Saturday doing the very same. New control box solved it.

    €95 of a gamble.

I'd recommend a proper service that will set the proper level of efficiency. Often it just a case of bad flame causing cutting out.

Any parts I have to replace is at the trade price I buy them at.

Could be just fuel starvation but a good service will put it right.

Could be a reduction in oil pressure or blockage leading to an over aired flame, time for a service, IMHO its a great investment to have your burner serviced and calabrated to optimize the profromance of the burning black gold.

Agreed that this could have many causes.......

    a. Over Aired
    b. Recirculation of POCs
    c. Faulty/Dirty PE cell
    d. Faulty control box
    e. Dirty/Blocked Nozzle
    f. Fuel starvation or low oil pressure
    g. Fuel pump drive pin broken
    h. Flue pump drive coupling worn
    i. Faulty solenoid
    j. Dirty/poor fuel
    k. Dirty/blocked fuel filters

As suggested get a competent oil service technician to have a look, or could be there for a while spending a lot of money on parts guessing
