At that price, avoid suspension and disc brakes. It won't work, it will break and you will be annoyed.

Although reduced from 445, maybe not as bad as I make out. Still, I wouldn't.

I'd say for your budget you'd be better off going second hand. Just saw a few good looking bikes on done deal for a little more than the cost of either of those. There's a Carrera gryphon hybrid, dawes mountain bike, felt mountain bike, none of which I have any connection to btw. It's hard to know what way Halfords price their bikes, they tend to go up and down wildly sometimes!

I'll have a look on Adverts later tonight. I'll post some my findings to get some advice.

What do you want to do with the bike?

Mainly to help keep active. I don't plan in racing or anything :P

The Carrera Subway seems to be decent enough and probably preferable to the Apollos. It's not the lightest of bikes but will do nicely. At €225 you won't be too bothered when, in a year's time you're hooked on cycling and want to upgrade. Don't use a bike to work scheme on this as you'll want that later on for the upgrade.

Get a decent D-lock to go with it, cable locks are not good enough.

Good luck and enjoy the spins...
