So this started flashing this morning accompanied by a kind of sulphur smell & driving a bit lumpy.
It's a 05 Megane Saloon, 1.4 petrol, 89km, always serviced on time, another 3km to next service.

What are the possible causes here?

    Thanks

A bit of a google says more than likely a dodgy ignition coil??

Sounds like a faulty ignition coil, the car is detecting misfire and the light is ominous on, this will allow unburnt petrol into the CAT reducing its life, get it checked..

I'm a 10min drive away from my mechanic, do I chance it and drive or get him to come to me?
Need to keep this yoke going another while :)

Give him a buzz and if he will come to you, great, or if tis a one way spin to drop it off shouldn't be too bad, but wouldn't personally like to drive it too far.

Was just looking on Micksgarage to get an idea of part cost & it says

"The prices quoted below are for a single coil. In most cases you will require more than 1"

Why would you need more than one in most cases,do they tend to go in pairs or something?

Would your average local motor factor tend to stock these also?

Yes. Between 20 and 30 euros each

Most modern petrols tend to have a separate ignition coil for each spark plug/cylinder.
They are commonly referred to as coil packs.
