Irish Times " Best Places to Go Wild in Ireland"

Been following this competition in weekend Irish Times. Would know of a few such wild places from my rambles but would never publicise them - the reason ? It's because, as I previously mentioned in this forum, I don't want to see these special places littered and despoiled by prohibited activities such as trail biking, unleashed dogs, remains of cider parties etc etc.
I often wonder if the powers that be who promote these areas are doing more harm than good to a valuable natural resource when some of those who access our wild spaces treat them as a refuse tip and engage in various other forms of exploitation - those who may enjoy the outdoors but clearly don't give a damn about preserving or protecting such places. Beer cans, disposable plastic containers and other such detritus don't disintegrate and will be there long after those who discard them are gone !! Is that the type of track we want left in these places ?? And why should others who care about the wild places have their enjoyment blighted by the rubbish dumped along trail ways and walks ?

I detest this type of competition. They did one on the best place to holiday or something last year. Its gimmicky and uses no criteria other than an entrants journalistic skills.
Thankfully nobody has entered any sites from my county, so nobody will be plodding around them out of sheer curiosity. If anybody loves nature and wants to get out and enjoy it then there are lots of ways to find out about sites locally.
