Did I annoy him?

I'm in need of advice as my heads a bit wrecked!

Theres this guy (isn't there always?) who works in the same building (different businesses) as me.

He's typically quiet and tends to keep himself to himself, would be polite and say hello to everyone but that's it. I'm quite bubbly though and can chat to anyone.

Over the last few months he's started going out of his way to say hello to me, like stopping conversations he's having with people to acknowledge me walking past etc. Usually I would just assume he was being polite but really there's no need for him to be as helpful as he sometimes is…opening doors for me etc.

The problem is though he tends to be quite awkward sometimes and I'm not sure whether its my fault or his…
Eg, He came across me doing some work in a communal area last week and of course said hello and asked how I was…trying to break the ice I jokingly asked his advice on something minor, he answered noncommittally and then walked away even though I was in the midst of replying, but the thing is he never took his eyes off me, turning even when he went opened and closed a glass door to look at me with this strange look on his face.
Now I'm left wondering if I completely messed up and offended him or is he just being awkward?

The guy can take a joke and he's always joking with the other women in the building but its only very rarely that I can make him really smile or laugh…he tends to always just give me a small tight smile. I'd almost think he didn't like me, but he always comes across as friendly.

So the thing is should I apologise next time I see him and just ensure that I'm more formal in future so as to avoid it happening again? I do think he's very nice and I'm sorry if I did annoy him!

You seem to be reading way too much into it, from what I can see.

You say he has an awkward demeanor, but now want to apologise because he acted awkwardly?

Do you have a crush on him? Sorry for asking, but it completely comes across that way.

From what you've said, he just seems like a normal, average guy, who hasn't done or said anything that should make you think anything other than 'ah, he's a nice, polite man.'

    Thanks for the reply.
I guess I do have a bit of a crush…I just never realised it until this happened, I tend to not ever think of 'work' people in that way.
Plus from a professional perspective I don't want to be annoying anyone, especially as my contract is temporary!

Sound's to me that he has a crush on her and thus finds it hard to relax and laugh around her. He feels uneasy in her presence because he doesn't know how to be open and friendly with her unlike other girls he may have no attraction to. Been there and worn the T-shirt several times over the years.

To me it sounds like you fancy him and you're trying to convince yourself that he is not indifferent to you. But maybe I picked that up wrong. Doesn't sound like you annoyed him.

If you do like him though - continue to talk to him when you see him.

    Sound advice thanks everyone!
I'm just happy to know I didn't annoy him, he's having a hard time at the minute and I'd hate to be making it worse.
