Question about Carer's Allowance and when claim starts

    I'm applying for Carer's Allowance and I've got all my documentation ready, apart from my P45 which I have asked my previous employer to send me. I've been waiting over a week for this.

    My question is: When does my claim for Carer's Allowance start? Is it from the date that my application form is received by the Dept of Social Welfare, or is it from the date that the doctor has filled out the medical assessment on the Carer's Allowance form?

    Generally from the date the dept receives you application.

    i just contacted carers allowance.and was told it takes between 12/14 weeks.the fella said id be backdated also.

    that's an improvement, 2 years ago I was waiting 37 weeks from them receiving my documentation to it being granted.
